  1. OK, am I living under a rock? What's with the duct tape and plastic sheets?
  2. Agreed. I'm really Candy, and NO one else will have me! It never would have occured to me that this would happen on a Christian board either. You're right--very childish. Timothy, Wisdom, and George--thank you all! You are in our prayers. I love this board and would never do anything to undermine its honesty and fellowship. :thumb: Sorry i hijacked the thread though!
  3. quote munari: FHA, That's not exactly right about the distinction. There are many different psychiatric theories, they're not all Freudians. The big difference between a psychologist and a psychiatrist is that the psychologist has a PhD and the psychiatrist has an MD. Most psychologists use tests and more of a talk therapy to resolve issues, psychiatrists tend to focus more on medical issues and prescribe medicine to deal with issues. Many times, a psychologist and a psychiatrist team up on a particular ct. Example, if someone has clinical depression, they may see a psychologist (or a counselor) for weekly visits and visit a psychiatrist monthly or so for medicine. Thank you! hey, I was close. I use Freud because he was the "father" of it. Sorry, tatie, to hijack your thread! Back to business-- And you're in my prayers!
  4. I think the difference is that one can prescribe medications and the other cannot. Psychology uses question and answer to get to the bottom of a personal issue, Pyschiatry boxes everyone into Id, Ego, and Super-ego, too. Freud and all that--Freud was a little off his crock. A few fries short of a happy meal. His elevator didn't go all the way to the top. He wasn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier. He was stark raving lunatic-type nuts. IMHO, of course! I'm too much of a lady to tell you what I REALLy think! Man, 2 Psych classes and I'm an expert...
  5. That's how I ended my faith story--by saying "If God is your co-pilot, you need to switch seats".
  6. Great points, johnjack. That's exactly what I looked for when I left "Denominational" churches to get away from the political and seperatist mindset that was present in every Denominational church I've ever seen. Southbrook is purely Bible-based, and every sermon is ON verses. Though our Pastor is really good at showing the Bible's relevance to us today by USING headlines and showing what the Bible says about the situations. We are told--not encouraged, but TOLD--to study God's word on our own, "feed ourselves" spiritually and have the sermons be a help-mate, a side-dish if you will; not our main course of God-food. :thumb:
  7. :thumb: Great topic, George! I just shared my faith story at church 2 weeks ago, which revolves around meek vs. weak. It takes great strength to be meek; to just be still and know that God is in control and I am not. Once I came to terms with that, life sure got easier. It is a struggle every day, though--honestly the fleshy nature constantly tries to get back in the driver's seat. Prayer is my only refuge. He calms me as soon as I ask. :inlove:
  8. quote angels4u: FHA, I wish we could buy Meletonen here in Canada, but we can't ...maybe you would send me some someday ,and I pay for it, will you do that? And what for kind of magnesium do you take and how much?? I'd certainly be happy to, angels, if I won't get arrested! It's not too expensive, either. PM me your address and I'll get on it. You can send me a check. :inlove: I think my bottle of 90 is about $10. that's only $40 a YEAR for good sleep! I'll take it! Magnesium? I don't take it. I do take lots of calcium, which helps me ol' bones, which sort of "ache" inside and feel "antsy" when my calciom is low. Tatie I don't think demons can enter unless they are invited. But Angels is MUCH more learned on this than I; and I tend to be more liberal in homeopathic remedies and that stuff than most. Follow the heart, and be careful. :thumb:
  9. OK, weird. What was that all about?
  10. WISDOM strikes again. Believe me, I know that flesh battles spirit thing. It's an everyday event in myself. Fortunately I don't fight that battle, as I LOSE every time! Only he can win, so I give it to Him!
  11. I'm in Charlotte- can I see this somewhere? WOW! I'd love to!
  12. Kinda like in the river, when we see the stillness and beauty of a sunset reflected, and we see the rocks over which the water gently flows, but the unseen current far beneath is what keeps the whole river healthy and active. :thumb: I've always seen the Spirit as "the comforter". I feel Him so often--when I write music, when I pray, when I take communion, when I am sorrowful, when I am happy, when I witness, when I worry...well, all the time, really! Praise God! Now, does Pneumonia come from that same root word? Just wondering... :???:
  13. Hi shiloh. Sounds to me like you have a pretty good hold on something much more valuable and beautiful than pride--Humility. Walk your own path--you are being led the right way. God bless you- Candy
  14. I've waited months to see if that would get any attention...didn't jibe with me either. I write Christian music, and some of it rocks. So far only one young soul has come to Christ because of the lyric in my song, but that tells me that those lyrics were INSPIRED, not MINE. Which tells me again, that it is worship. :inlove: :thumb: I am sure glad that my God's heart and mind are more receptive to other kinds of music than some of our friends here. Hymns bore me to tears, and alot of THEM used to be drinking songs! BTW Boblandis, usually I agree with your logic, but I respectfully disagree on this. By your logic, we shouldn't get involved in a church family either, because even Pastors fall! By your logic, we should not take a chance on involving ourselves with ANYTHING, because there is always the (sure) possibility that one might fall. But when they do, they are forgiven if they repent. Sometimes the fallen become the best evangelists, and sometimes they happen to write music they can relate to, which rocks. For Christ. I know, see? That's me. :inlove: God's gifts are many and varied, and you are not in a position to judge those gifts.
  15. Wisdom!! Hi stranger! Your posts have never offended me--I'm one of the ones who thinks your name fits. :inlove: Traveller--did you get my reply? I'm talking to you now!! Trouble? Traveller? Never!!
  16. Better late than never? i have nothing NEW to add, but like catsmeow I take melatonin. I have a few suggestions: Take it about an hour before you hit the hay. You don't exercise at night, do you? Don't. Also a bedtime ritual is important. Your body has convinced your mind that you cannot sleep. You have to trick it by re-training it. This takes time and patience. DON"T pray for patience--you never know what you'll get! God really listens to that prayer, I've found! Try taking your melatonin, taking your magnesium, and a warm bath with lavender. Lavender is very relaxing. So is Vanilla. Aromatherapy really works, I use it alot. All natural and very enjoyable too! In your bath, drink a cup of lemon-ginger or other caffeine-free tea. tea. Ginger is good for everything. Put honey in the tea. Soft lighting is important; if you don't have a dimmer on your bathroom lights, get one. $5 at any Lowe's. If possible, listen to some classical music in the bath. Soft and easy, nothing with lyrics.
  17. This is exactly how my church started, and we remain true to the foundations of it. My pastor, Rob Singleton, began holding meetings in his living room with about 5 people. 5 years later there are over 700 of us and we have just signed papers to buy our land! Yes, Praises! Built on nothing but His word and His will!! :inlove:
  18. I think she said mom's visions STOP when she (he? sorry, don't know!) slacks on prayer. Why would your prayer life and your mom's visions be tied? How does mom know when or how much you pray? How old are you? How old is she? Are you in a church? There are several interpretations those visions could have--some fairly obvious, some not. I wonder how many times she has had these visions? No change EVER in what she sees? Does the background change? The surroundings? Do the creatures in the visions move at all? Like, what is the old man doing WITH his hands? That could be important...Do the 2 men move? are they walking? sitting? friends? or strangers? Do they look at one another or at your mother? Need more info!
  19. You all have excellent taste. I'd love to HEAR Ravi. I've read some things, (some are over my head too, don't feel bad! )) but I hear that to speak with him is so powerful! Ooh, yes! CS Lewis!!
  20. Not a great speaker but I believe the greatest man of God this century--Billy Graham. And that's not just cause I'm from Charlotte! He just delivers the plain vanilla truth and boy does God work through Rev. Graham. Also his son, Franklin. Max Lucado, Ravi, and Joyce Meyers. World Vision--what a great organization. We also support children through them, though my jacob has died of malaria recently, we are adopting 2 more. :inlove: My youth kids insist on using their tithes to support one by themselves. :inlove: Also Samaritan's Purse, Franklin Graham's organization. We send boxed to his ministry all the time at my church, and the boxes for children at Christmas time as well.
