  1. Yes al-Qaeda in Iraq are our friends. They had nothing to do with 911 as Mussolini had nothing to do with Pearl Harbor.

    Unequally Yoked

The word Yoked is like, being married to, in business with, or living with unbelievers. I think the same could be said about close friends. Sometimes close friends become almost like family. It is a shame but unbelievers never can be your 'good friend'. Matthew 12:30
  3. Christ is not the word or the logos. The greek word for word is Lexis the literal greek translation should have been
  4. Now there were indentured servants referred to as slaves, who sold themselves under contract for a number of years. You could sell a daughter but she must agree to being sold. She would also be called a slave. But American type slavers were put to death. Exodus 21:16 And he that stealeth a man, and selleth him, or if he be found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. JB
  5. OK, since you are being elusive, I am going to have to be blunt. What is your religious affiliation? Mormon? Jehovah's Witness? Something else? Could be Christadelphian JB
  6. I know the story (remember I was a Christian for nearly half my life). God wants to big himself up to Satan - "Look how faithful Job is! And guess who created him?" Satan doesn't believe God (which is strange, one would assume Satan knows God is omniscient), so God is compelled to make the point to Satan by allowing him to bring down horrific suffering to Job. Eventually Satan relents, God restores what Job lost many times over - happy ever after. Except, it's plain to see that's not how it works in reality. Job is the only instance where we see a virtuous man suffering great loss, showing faith, and then having his worldy things restored many times over. One of the more poignant examples was a man in my old cathedral choir. He was married to the chaplain of the cathedral, who not long before I finished my tenure in the choir, caught sinusitis on holiday. It progressed to multiple organ failure and she died. It begs the question - did David need to be widowed TWICE? His first wife died too, presumably a faithful Christian also. Last I heard, God's not bestowed a new wife on him, or a sudden increase in wealth. Hell, maybe he would have appreciated a chance to do missions work overseas, and make a difference to the Christian cause. But no, he's probably living alone in the South East of England. Still the nice, harmless, if slightly awkward man I knew five years ago. Still alone. The point I was trying to make concerning the OP is that ten members of Jobs family were allowed to die (not restored as far as I can remember) so that Job's faith could be shown and bring glory to God. Is wealth what you have here on earth? Is what you get out of Job is that because of his faith his stuff was returned? Can you think of anyone in the Bible that lived alone? What does God owe man? JB
  7. That's akin to starting a fire in a building so you can "glorify" the Fire Department. Have you reviewed the book of Job lately? JB
  8. Gods plan is not reveled to us and most likely never will be. But to answer your question with a what if type of answer. The purpose of all existence is to glorify God and that goes for ALL man kind. So let's do a what if, what if a person like yourself saw the suffering of these children in Africa and your heart soften to the point that you devoted your life to helping them. And what if you went around the world telling others of these children and others came to their aid? Could these acts of unselfish kindness glorify God? Maybe but we know not His plan because we are not quite as smart as the Creator of all things. It's a hard question to answer but a good question to ask and think about. By His Grace I was Born in America JB
  9. I just like to point out that the man at the pool was not saved by faith because he had no idea who had cured him. John 5:12 So they asked him, "Who is this fellow who told you to pick it up and walk?" 13 The man who was healed had no idea who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the crowd that was there. Exodus 33:19 And the Lord said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the Lord, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. IHS JB
  10. Hi Kari I hate people who answer a question with a question but today I am going to do that. What does it mean to do something in someone's else's name? Does it mean that you are using that person's authority because that person asked you to do that act, whatever it may be? Remember the story of the sick man at the pool in John 5. There "lay a multitude of the sick--blind, lame, and paralyzed [--waiting for the moving of the water," but Christ chose to heal only one. Now if you were with Him and decided that you were going to heal the rest of them in His name do you think He would have allowed that? So to try and answer my own question if I was to do something in then name of kari19 I would have to be told (requested) by you do that act. Not just do something that I thought you might like me to do but something you ask me to do. If I was at the pool with Christ I probably would have wanted see everyone healed but that is not what He wanted. And that is my problem I know what I want and sometimes I mix that up with what Christ wants. By His Grace JB
  11. nor anything else in all creation However, there is one thing that can separate me from God's love that did not make this list and that is me, myself and I. Not in this list humm JB
  12. Because many profess to be Christians that are not. Why does God say, "You shall have no other gods before me." There is no salvation in Traditions. JB
  13. Fine then I have your answer: Were there 2 liars at the fall or just 1? ONE Was Eve a liar or just 'dumb'? NEITHER I'm too old for this I'm going to bed. God bless JB
  14. You quoted the passage that shows that she was quoting God so you found the verses yourself. She quotes God and so we know what God said to her. You are missing something. This: I'm not saying here that any 'conversation' occured. Eve didn't say anything to the serpent about a conversation between her and God. Though there is indeed a scriptural record of what God told her, hers. That's what I'm saying occured. Her wittness. Since there is a scriptural record of what God told her your reasoning above is based on the assumption that either she was lieing or was not intelligent enough to understand God's command. Otherwise WHY would you question her wittness, the biblical record of what God told her, to begin with? Exactly. Adam and Eve did not know sin. They had just been created. Eve told the serpent what God said. We do have a quote about what God said to Adam. So Eve tells the serpent what God said to her. Simple. Agreed
  15. I am not the one questioning her witness you are. I say there is no evidence that she lied. If the only record of what God told her is her statement I'll accept it as fact. If you show me that God did not say those word to her Then she lied. But you have fails to show scripture to back up your claim that her quote is not fully accurate. Now if in fact she got her instructions from Adam then you may have a problem in Adam who also knew no sin. But as far as Eve goes you have vindicated her from any wrong doing unless you can show that God told her something other than Gen 3:3. I am waiting for your scripture. JB
  16. It appears from what you two are telling me, being that she was not present at the time Adam received his instructions, she had to receive them at a later time. Now if you can show me that God told her something other than what she said He told her then there could be a misunderstanding or a lie. Remember now that at this time she had not yet eaten of the forbidden fruit and did not know sin. JB
  17. Before Eve Gen 2:16 And the Lord God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; 17 but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die."18 The Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him." Gen 3:2 The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, 3 but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'" So who did Eve hear her instructions from? Was she quoting God or Adam? Did adam lie to her, maybe he's the stupid one. Eve heard her instruction from God. It's right there in the verse. Well in that case she was not lying if this is the only record of the conversation between her and Him why would you assume she lied? JB
  18. She was quoting God as the scripture shows: Since she was quoting God, and God said 'you must not eat...' and the pronoun 'you' is in the Hebrew plural, she heard the instructions from God. If Adam had lied to her thereby adding to God's command, God would have called him on it because his lieing would have been his first sin, rather than his rebellion of eating of the tree. Because he was intelligent enough to name the animals and understand the difference between them (creation) and God thereby being protected from being deceived by the serpent (he rebelled, she was deceived) then surely he was intelligent enough to understand God's simple command. Apparently you don't believe that Eve was a liar or not intelligent enough to understand God's command. I would expect scriptural backing if you did. Good questions. If she was quoting from God maybe you can point me to the verses. That way I'll know exactly what God said to her and I can tell you if she lied or not. Seems simple to me or am I missing something? But if there is no record of the conversation that you say occurred, well your question can not be answered without making an unwarranted assumption. JB
  19. Christ is the Ark of salvation and He will come when you are not expecting Him for those who are ready, those not ready will parish. No one knows the time so you must be on the Ark or you will parish. But what do I know my kids up and got old years ago JB
  20. Romans 15:8 For I tell you that Christ has become a servant of the Jews on behalf of God's truth, to confirm the promises made to the patriarchs He was sent only to minister to the Jew but His salvation is for whoever believes on Him. This is the fulfillment of the OT. IHS JB
