  1. The High Sabbath was a Thursday that particular year. Well I didn't know that they had the exact year Jesus died, so how is it, you're making the above statement?
  2. A church that's forgotten its Jewish roots and Jewish understanding of things. Jim - you seem to treating this as an attack against your faith? Why is that? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The Church hasn't forgotten it's Jewish roots, but in fact, Jew's I know who convert to Catholicism, say how surprised they are to see so much of Judaism in Catholicism. I'm not seeing this topic as an attack against my Church, but merely stating that I will stick to what the Church teaches and the traditions that she adhere's to.
  3. If you come together to worship God, with people who believe the same things as you do, you have a religion. Is this man made or inspiration from the Holy Spirit?
  4. Sundown Thursday to sundown Friday is one day. Sundown Friday to sundown Saturday is the 2nd day. Sundown Saturday to sundown Sunday, is the 3rd day. Jesus died on Friday and on the 3rd day, rose, which is Sunday.
  5. paraskeue, preparation (i.e. the preparation that was made on the sixth day for the Sabbath; Now there was a virtuous and righteous man named Joseph who, though he was a member of the council, had not consented to their plan of action. He came from the Jewish town of Arimathea and was awaiting the kingdom of God. He went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. After he had taken the body down, he wrapped it in a linen cloth and laid him in a rock-hewn tomb in which no one had yet been buried. It was the day of preparation, and the sabbath was about to begin. Luke 23:50-54 When it was already evening, since it was the day of preparation, the day before the sabbath, Joseph of Arimathea, a distinguished member of the council, who was himself awaiting the kingdom of God, came and courageously went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Mark 15:42-44 Observance of what has become known as Good Friday, goes back to the early Church. You seem to be saying that for over 2000 years of Christianity, the Church hasn't figured out that Jesus didn't die on Friday, but you did. I think I'll stick to what the Church has always believed and taught.
  6. John 19:19 tells us that the next day was a "High Sabbath." High Sabbaths can occur on any day of the week. There are seven "High Sabbaths." So it is not necessarily so that He died on Friday. You cannot get three days and three nights unless He died on Wedensday. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hmmm, in my Bible, John 19:19, doesn't mention anything about the Sabbath. Are you sure you have the right verse?
  7. Religion is our response to faith, it is not faith. Faith is a gift from God. It is the revelation of God himself, to us. Religion, is how we respond to that faith. Faith draws us to know, love and serve God. This is the purpose of religion.
  8. Jesus celebrated Passover, the day before he was died. Read Matthew Chaptor 26. Then Jesus died on Friday, this is not a myth, but in Scripture. Now there was a virtuous and righteous man named Joseph who, though he was a member of the council, had not consented to their plan of action. Luke 23:50-54 The Sabbath begins at sundown, Friday evening. So, Jesus died on Friday. As far as three days goes, it is that Jesus would rise ON the 3rd day. Friday is one, Saturday two and Sunday is the third day. As far as replacing the pagan holiday of Estre, I say good! We celebrate the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, not the pagan holiday.
  9. Christmas and Easter are part of the liturgical year. Christmas is the beginning of Christianity, where Easter is the fulfillment of our salvation in Jesus Christ. Well I agree that these things should be be in our heart throughout the year, the events of Christmas and Easter, bring's our hearts into the season of the event, and it is a point of reflection and mediation, that enriches our lives. We don't need to hear music to have a song in our hearts, but how much better is life with music in our lives? The Christian holidays are the music of our faith, which enriches our faith. Rejoice in it, because it is the glory of God, that is celebrated.
  10. I'm at the point where I don't know what to believe, concerning the Schiavo case. Conflicting information all over the net and on TV. There seems to be a campaign to vilify husband Michael to the point that facts are being fabricated, that he was abusive and may have even tried to murder her, before he illness. A host on a radio talk show I listen to, received a letter from a person who claims to be a Christian. The person called the host a "Godless "F-word." Many on the religious right look and sound like nut cases, making all sorts of outrageous claims. Not a good reflection of Christ, in my opinion!
  11. This is one side of the story there's always another side, like the hospice side. You won't get both sides listening to Hannity and Savage.
  12. All you need to do is look. I live in the U.S. and have seen plenty of homeless, hungry people. I have seen their face and their name is homeless and hungry, one of Gods children. Most people have a tendency to look the other way. I agree that the U.S. should help in the world and I think it should help its own people to. I have little to offer these people when I see them..a sandwich, bag of chips, piece of fruit. Then I see their smile and I thank God often through the tears that have welled up in my eye because I could not do more. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> We all have something greater to offer these people, and that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There lives on this earth just as yours and mine will amount to nothing compared to eternity. God Bless, Dave <{POST_SNAPBACK}> If a brother or sister has nothing to wear and has no food for the day, and one of you says to them, "Go in peace, keep warm, and eat well," but you do not give them the necessities of the body, what good is it? So also faith of itself, if it does not have works, is dead. James 2:16-17
  13. I think the reason why there is so much attention given to the Terri Schiavo case, is because, we either relate to it somehow in our own lives, or we fear, being in the same situation someday, and want the legal and ethical answers sorted out before we get there. Are our priorities off? Perhaps, but we're human beings, searching for answers. I don't see anything evil with it.
  14. He's had this relationship with this woman for some time now, and they have had two children together.
  15. Those who make it to heaven, will do so, because of Jesus. However, this does not exclude those, who have lived a righteous life, but through no fault of their own, are ignorant of Jesus. Nor does it guarantee that those who know Jesus, but do not follow his commandments, will be part of his Kingdom.
  16. All the documents or just the Schindler's?
  17. I would suggest talking with a pastor at a local church, and see if he can't recommend some one for you to talk with. When we were having problems with my daughter, years ago, we met a Christian psychologist, who was awesome! In the mean time, we'll pray for you!
  18. And yet the Doctors teh family employed stated she could recover, a couple doctors even went as far as to say they have seen patients recover from much worse cases.' Doctors who have never examined Terri, from what I understand. The problem with this whole case, is that there is contradictory stories coming from both sides. It's why the Florida court, ordered an independent team of doctors to examine her. They did, and agreed with the decision to pull the tube. We only have what the media feeds us, and what the parents and husband tell us, and both of their stories tend to be contradictory. From what I know from the media reports and from the video tapes that are out there, I would say that the tube should not have been pulled. But I'm willing to admit, that I most likely don't have all the facts and the information I have is not totally accurate and I have no doubt, that people across the United States who are following this case, are in the same boat. We have no other recourse than to follow the rule of law, which the Florida courts have done.
  19. Actually the videos were taken in 2001 and were done so AGAINST a court order Michael had put in place to "protect" Terri's privacy And so they were taken illegally, and we can believe the people who took them and say they are as recent as 2001? OK, even if taken in 2001. That was 4 years ago. Is she still in the same condition as the video tapes show? The court appointed doctors, say no.
  20. I can understand your feelings. However, keep in mind, that we have not seen Terri, nor do we have accurate video tapes of her. Also, a team of doctors who were oppointed by the Florida courts examined Terri, and agreed with the decision to remove the feeding tube. I may not agree, but I realize, that I don't have all the facts that they do.
  21. Waves If you want to get technical, I am a doctor in the medical field. Regardless, it doesn't take a "PhD" to see from the videos that she isnt brain dead. If she is as far gone as her "husband" says, why cant someone like CNN go in and videotape her to prove his point? Oh thats right, he refuses to allow others to tape her. I wonder why.......perhaps she is not as bad off as he claims she is. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> My understanding is that the video tapes we are seeing on the internet and on TV, are not recent, but in fact over 12 years old. So, it is not possible to make an accurate diagnosis, based on these video tapes.
  22. Although I question the decision, let's keep in mind, that the country operate's on laws, not emotions. The judge's decision, is based on Florida law, and that law gives the husband, the decision making power for his wife. We may not like it, but that's the way it is. George Bush and the GOP led congress, really screwed up getting involved in this single case. Consider this, just two weeks ago, when the USSC made the decision, that states could not use capital punishment on juveniles, there was outrage from the conservative ranks that constitutionally, this was for the states to decide. Now, when the state of Florida follow's it's laws, they went ahead and got the congress involved and made a law for one person. This is a dangerous precedent. Keep in mind that in the future, we could end up with a Hillary Clinton for president, with a democrat controlled congress. Will you want them interfering with family issues, such as this one? I bet not!
