Cynthia Mckinney, sunk? Rammed by Israeli Navy
The Lorax replied to Matthitjah's topic in Israeli-Palestinian Conflict
Great idea. I agree completely. There are innocent Palestinians, and there are innocent Israelis. There are Palestinians who are guilty of murder and there are Israelis who are guilty of murder. I haven't implied anything about ALL Israelis or ALL Palestinians. It's a tough situation. Hamas sucks and should disappear, but I won't let that priority overcome my concern for the lives of innocent women, children, etc. I have no need to prove myself or my faith in God to anyone I meet on the internet. If you wish to misinterpret me, that's your mistake to make. If you wish to brand me, that's your mistake to make. Within the confines of this discussion, wrong assumptions about ME actually put YOU at a disadvantage because you have no idea who you're talking to or what I believe. However, I lose nothing. Your suggestion is for me to talk louder and clearer. My suggestion is that you start listening in the first place, if you actually want to hear me. Just for once, it would be refreshing if you didn't automatically assume I'm a pro-Hamas secular atheist moral relativist. I've noticed something about people. If you are pretty similar to them, they will try to find common ground with you. But if you pass a certain threshold of discrepancy, they will try to see you as completely different. I think that applies to this thread as much as it applies to Palestinians and Israelis. -

Absolutely. Absolutely. That depends entirely on the situation. Absolutely. But let's hope they do it in a way that doesn't show a ruthless disregard for Palestinian life. I'm surprised I have to spell any of this out for you, dave. I guess this is some kind of test, right? -

I condemn genocide everwhere and murder everywhere. I commend people who try to fight these atrocities. I commend Cynthia McKinney for her effort to save lives. I commend her for putting her own neck on the line, in a boat in a war zone, while you laugh at her from the comfort and safety of your living room. -

We can put semantics aside because it doesn't matter to me what KIND of people these people are, just that they ARE people. There's something ironic about talking about "proper channels" in the same place bombs are dropping. Tell me, were those Palestinian children killed through the proper channels, or are they just collateral damage? We can debate historical context all day, and you would probably win, but I'm looking at the immediate threat to life. People are dying, a boat trying to help them got damaged, but we here at Worthy are laughing about it because apparently that boat stands for something we don't like. Where's Jesus in us? -

Good to hear glory, but my comment wasn't meant for you. The people on the boat concern me, but I'm most worried about the dying Palestinians including children who were waiting for the medical supplies the boat was carrying. How can a Christian laugh at this? So the boat made a stupid move...Would you laugh at an ambulance if it got wrecked because the driver ran a red light? Also, I see Cobalt is reading this thread. What do I win if he changes the subject to abortion? -

A boat carrying medical supplies to Palestinians is damaged? Hilarious!!! Oh no wait, that's not hilarious, because human life is actually worth something. -
A top level Republican IT consultant who was set to testify in a case alleging GOP election tampering in Ohio died in a plane crash late Friday night.

Forgive that spectacularly ignorant comment. But suffice it to say that Newsmax.com is once again grasping at straws?

Wow this is way over my head. All I know is that, despite working for AIG (among other insurance carriers), I'm not wearing a burkah right now.

WN: It's official: Barack Obama elected 44th president - AP

Would I be overstepping my bounds, Dave, if I were to politely ask you to turn that frown upside down? -
It looks like the GOP polarization is still going strong, even if it backfired in the election. "Colon Powell betrayed us. He's a bad bad man." I think this thread is a good example of what Powell was talking about. Unfortunately, yes.

WN: Bush Says Creation 'Not Incompatible' With Evolution - Fo
The Lorax replied to WorthyNewsBot's topic in U.S. News
"I'm just a simple President." Btw, evolution is absolutely compatible with Creation. However, it's not compatible with a literal interpretation of Genesis. It sounds like Bush believes in evolution and not in a literal Genesis. Or maybe he just doesn't have a clue. -

We Christians oppose radical Islam (rightly so) but that doesn't mean we think Allah is a real threat. It's the DELUSIONAL BELIEF in Allah that's the threat. A lot of my college buddies were atheists and they really see us Christians the way we see Islam: as a pernicious delusion. Don't mistake militant atheists for closet theists--trust me, they are not.

OUCH! Did you read that last line? No I didn't!!!!!! That was a big mistake!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maybe it started when Gonzalez laughed at the United States Constitution, had all those troublesome attorneys dismissed, and then denied everything. Or maybe it was when he pretended Habeas Corpus doesn't exist... GONZALES: The fact that the Constitution

They've been indicted, but it hasn't been signed. The article makes that clear in the second sentence. You seem angry. May I ask what about? What is untrue in the article?

I feel like this claim revolves around abortion and gay rights. Now, you may have a point in stating that McCain is more 'anti' these things than Obama is (although it must be said that McCain has been pretty 'meh' about gay rights). Obama is for affordable health care for all people. Currently there are a lot of people in this country who are unable to afford health care. Obama is focused on solving this, or at least making a push to give that option to all Americans. Is this a vote against Christ? Christ, the one who teaches to help feed the sick and the hungry, and to care for the poor and needy? Obama is also for more communication between countries, and in my mind represents a new foreign policy direction for the country. Is this a vote against Christ? Would Christ support a restriction of communication with others? In my mind, no. I believe Christ would want to come to an understanding with those who view America as an enemy, and would focus on reaching a mutual agreement with other countries instead of always bullying them to do what we want. Obama is calling for self sacrifice and hard work to raise America in terms of its strength. He is telling us that we can't just expect the country to get better, we have to work hard to achieve it. He is also telling us that we may need to make sacrifices about our way of life, if we want to help the country succeed. I agree with him, and I would imagine that Christ would feel the same way. Christ never focused on objects and things that much, he focused on people and the virtues that people possess. As Americans we are so wrapped up in buying things, and getting things that we often think that's all there is. I think that it would actually help our country if we focused on the things that really mattered, and avoided wasteful spending on useless items. Perhaps to put it somewhat simply, I support Obama mostly because of his worldview. I think that he has a more inclusive world view when compared to McCain, and I honestly believe that we need that sort of leader in our country if we are ever going to be able to solve world problems along with other countries. The truth is that there is no one in this election who follows Christ's teachings exactly. Whomever you vote for on November 4th will have at least one view that opposes Christ. If someone followed Christ exactly as a candidate, he/she would be Christ.

This is an exaggeration as well. Obama is certainly against much of what conservatives stand for, but don't conflate classic or neo-conservatism with the broad spectrum of thoughts and values in this country. Be careful with blanket statements. Again, this is shrill and simplistic. Such statements are best prefaced with the phrase, "In my opinion..."
-
Again, yes, you are belittling him by positing that his choice is based on color. I support affirmative action, and my support for Obama is not based on the fact that he is black. Can anyone tell me what a Christian would support Obama for? It certainly is not values, because he has none that are good. He opposes Christ in everything he does and believes. So a vote by a 'Christian' for Obama means that same person opposes the teachings of Christ. Colin Powell used to have my admiration and respect. He lost it the minute he gave his support to Obama, because he showed me, at that point, what he actually stands for, and that is absolutely nothing good. That's all quite shrill and exaggerated. The majority of Americans support Barack because they know he's right for America. Now, about the topic. For committed conservatives, Powell's endorsement of Obama will only lower their opinion of Powell, not boost their opinion of Obama. But this really doesn't matter, because it won't change who committed conservatives are voting for: McCain. Moderates and independents DO matter, though. And in the eyes of most of them, this will boost Obama, particularly in his weakest area, national security. This endorsement is huge, and may be the death knell of McCain, so expect Republicans to diminish it in any way they can. Expect charges of racism. Expect excuses of all kinds. Meanwhile, expect Obama to creep up in the polls.
