im w/ you senerhu, not many guys posting here! anyway, i agree that clothing is crazy these days and that people ought to use discernment when picking out clothes. i also feel that 'modesty' changes throughout society. the examples have already been laid out from the 1920's etc etc. who's perspective defines what modesty is? the one who wears the clothes or the one viewing them? before you get all hyped up, i know the scriptures posted, but that doesnt answer my question. God tells us dress modestly, well is it possible for someone to think differently on what this looks like and both be right? ie, my wife bought a dress the other day for a function we had to attend. it was one of those full length dresses w/ a silky satin feel to it. it covered her whole body and had 'regular' shoulder straps on her shoulder and her chest and back were covered... i thought it was beautiful and modest. now, who says im right? who says my wifes choice was right? anyone could have come in and said, it was 'too form fitting' b/c of the materials used. i thought it fit her nicely and was fairly loose. so again, who's right? those who thought the dress was modest or those that thought too much of her back showed? in senerhu's case, whose right? if his wife were to wash her car or run to the store right quick in the shorts(i say this not knowing the actual length, but for example sake say some may object) whose to say whose stance is the 'correct' one? again, whose perspective defines modesty? p.s.

depends on your stance of the term 'religion'. 'religion' has no place in this Christians life, only faith in my relationship w/ the Father. in Christ

wow, getting candy offends God that much huh? yikes! witches and devils huh, i swore my daughter dressed as a care bear last year, but hey if you say there only witches, devils, and things of this nature, i guess i was mistaken. again, please show me where God is displeased w/ the scenario you just typed. i would also suggest doing one of these bible studies you speak of on Romans 14:1-23. when your done, tell me what you think this discourse is talking about... wait a sec, do it exegetically. which means read the text AS IS. w/o preconceived notions, minus emotions, minus the discussions on this board. just look at the pages as is. then, tell me what you come up w/. that actually goes for all against getting candy on this day. im curious. do we need to research every holiday we participate in? if so, then what ultimately makes it 'bad'? if not, then whats all the fuss about? my kids enjoy halloween, and i enjoy taking them, plain and simple. anyone, who's opposed to halloween may answer. i would really like an answer. as for the 'confused' and 'no light' comments please read this post from catsmeow and then tell me what you think.... great post cats!! i loved it! you scumbag you! :il: j/k in Christ

i hear you loud and clear bro'!! come on now, that wasnt a praise to John Lennon, simply a quote which could used in a positive sense regardless of who said it. Lennon has also said that religion is the opiate of society. you know what, i agree! not the way he intended it to mean, but religion is bondage! you know what he meant. in Christ

i agree that true beauty does not come from outside factors. i am not against plastic surgery, but it can be done for the wrong reasons. there are many women i find 'physically attractive', but beauty is so much more than how a person looks physically IMO. beauty is a relative term and just b/c someone is pretty and has 'enlarged features' (real or not) does not make them beautiful in my book! in Christ

this may be the best explanation on the subject(and others that are similar). seems to me Christians are more willing to live w/ a bunch of rules as opposed to freedom. im not talking a rebellious 'do what i want' but the freedom in the grey areas. folks we have freedom! whether its halloween, spring break, star wars (i heard bob larson say these movies were straight from hell), rock-n-roll music, or who knows what else, many seem to over rationalize their significance or make a mountain out of a mole hill. i happen to feel God is so much bigger than us watching star wars, harry potter, or listening to secular music. i know some may not be able to participate in disputable matters but that should not be taught as the norm. that those who participate in disputable matters are sinning. citing 'remaining holy', or 'in the world not of it' as their scriptural backing. romans 14 lays this whole discussion out for us. basically, do not call evil what someone else calls good. (rom14:16). i think the part we go astray on is what are the disputable matters. there is no all inclusive list, but the fact that this thread is 14 pages long may shed light on what this issue is. i think the words, "that may be okay for you, but me" also point to the heart of this issue. i mean how long would this thread be if it were titled, "Should Christians participate in adultery?" not very long...hopefully!! i think Rom. 14:5-6 are really relevant here. again, this whole discourse is dealing w/ disputable matters and these verses ought to be read in that context. verses 5-6 [ one man considers one day more sacred than another, another man considers every day alike. each one should be fully convinced IN HIS OWN MIND. he who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. he who eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.] if i left anything out i apologize, sometimes i like to type the words out rather than cut and paste for my benefit. as you can see, those that participated or abstained, gave thanks to God! this whole discourse ought to be applied over and over throughout the forums!! to make points is one thing, but when one side starts talkin' sin in a blanket statement sense, please refer back to Rom. 14: 1-23!! in Christ

great points! i would also ask is it wrong to go on date w/ your mate on Valentines Day? in Christ

this does have a hint of wisdom, but to say this and be consistent one must also look at it from other angles. you are looking at this as a non smoker who thinks smokers are bad stewards for 'wasting' their money on cigs. would an Amish believer be right in their assumption of your spending habits? or not even that extreme, what about someone who has a job a family the whole nine, but they think people are wasting their money if they own more than one car, more than say two pairs of shoes, they eat out twice a week, etc. do you catch my drift? i am not a smoker, but look at things aside from my personal feelings on the matter. in Christ

i have no problem responding. its not that tough a question. i will answer them on the condition that answer a question for me. cool? yes i would drink in front of Jesus. if Jesus himself drank why would i feel guilty for doing it in front of Him? i dont understand where the guilt would come from. God's Word does not condemn alcohol. it actually portrays it in a different light. consider these Scriptures, Psalm 104:15. the whole psalm lists things God has made. in v. 31 it says the Lord rejoices in His work. so yes, i would drink in front of Jesus. there is nothing wrong w/ enjoying one of His gifts. just b/c people abuse it does not mean it is wrong. look how the gift of sex has been abused!! Luke 7:33-35. again, a clear example that Christ drank. this is not a reference from Peter or Paul, but Jesus himself talking about himself! i dont see how it could be made any clearer. my question for you is why you wouldnt drink in front of Jesus? and what do you base this on? i think many times we have our own perception of what we think Jesus would be offended by. how we come to these conclusions vary, but the Word does not condemn it. i mean many say that drinking would destroy their witness, but CHRIST DRANK WINE. how is this missed? as you put it, the ULTIMATE Authority and Judge of our actions spoke of drinking. so how could He turn around and say that people are wrong for it? it is beyond me. in Christ

thats awesome! i love to hear of those that live for Christ that dont fit the 'norm'. that arent afraid to be who they are in Christ. they dont hide behind all the religious cliches', they arent concerned w/ being politically correct. just them and God!!! in Christ
-
i see what you mean. but i think others are kind of thrown off by saying that you are committed to not drinking and remaing holy as God is, by not drinking. that you are living a life pleasing to God that focuses on Him, by not drinking. and that you are being a witness by not drinking. then when you say that there are no grey areas and everything is black and white, then drinking must be wrong all together. do you see why your stance on drinking and grey areas would come across in this manner? how do you explain not believing in grey areas but that those who choose to drink arent sinning? in Christ

that was a great post! i agree whole heartedly. my wife and i stopped 'tithing' and started 'giving' about three years ago. not that tithing is not giving, i just mean we stopped punching 10% in a calculator and gave as we felt lead, and where we felt lead. that ended up meaning we gave less to the 'church building', but were able to reach more people as well. we felt more involved in lives of the people we helped, as opposed to the lump sum we used to feel required to give to the church building. im not knocking those who tithe to their churches, but i agree w/ Dad Ernie that one should not feel required to give a minimum amount. my wife and i do somewhat the same thing. we help individuals who are in need, organizations, etc. yesterday my wife told me that some kids from a church youth group were selling candy and stuff to raise money for something (i forget exactly what) but their supply was still full, meaning they hadnt sold much. so my wife gave them enough to pay for their whole inventory. then took ONE candy bar and told them to do what they wanted w/ the rest! so no matter what they reached their goal, and b/c of my wife's generosity they could potentially get double! she said the kids faces were like whoa, thank you!!! they kept trying to get her to take more but she said it was okay! she said it was a great experience, as giving is supposed to be!! in Christ

1.) simple and yet so true! 2.) thank you, the bad thing is i think my oldest knows it!!( arrgh, dad bangs head on wall!) she is always asking, "why does everyone say that me and Jadyn are sooo pretty?!" yikes! i think im in for it! in Christ

i loved the article. it really speaks to me right now! i was just wondering what others think about the second choice? i think we can see what the first looks like, but what does the second look like in life of a believer? in Christ

what are we saying if people see us buying it from somewhere? that we happen to like to have a drink. whats wrong w/ that? it is very possible to still be a good witness for Christ seeing how He drank. Luke 7:31-35. i do understand your desire to not cause someone to stumble, but there are sooooo many other ways this can be taken as well, very legitamately. one must examine their views closely. when one says what will 'people' say this should not mean: 'people' = everyone. what about those who may be looking for someone to relate to? wont you also be a good witness in this situation? just some thoughts to ponder in Christ
-
im right all the time!!! ...my kids tell me so!!! hehehe in Christ
-
well maybe ya'll are right, i dont know this situation. but that is a minor detail of my post. the point here was that you changed positions on this matter, but you couldnt biblically change positions on drunkeness, adultery, etc. i said this thinking of my own situation. i used think drinking at all was a sin, mainly b/c of what i was told, but God was okay w/ my not drinking. now i do not feel drinking is a sin, when done in reason. and God is still okay w/ my choice. i shoudnt have assumed my testimony was yours also, but again that is irrelevent. what do you think about the rest of what i said? in Christ
-
do you not see the grey in your situation? you once felt it was okay to drink at home, for whatever reason. now you say you feel otherwise, again for whatever reason. and that's fine. in both instances, God was okay w/ your decision. i can assure you that you will never, biblically speaking that is, feel differently on adultery. simply b/c it is a black and white issue. as LadyC stated, the terms 'black, white, and grey areas may not be used in the bible, but the principles relate. its similar to the term 'trinity' also not being used. Romans 14 speaks of disputable matters and how these matters to each individual. a clear statement from God's word that we arent uniform in all things. again, this is not a bad thing. b/c i feel God is leading me to give up eating meat, does not mean that KMB has to as well. i actually have a friend who does not want to play cards anymore b/c he got real careless gambling. but that does not mean it is wrong for my buddies and i to get together and play poker. do you see what i mean? these areas are designed for our personal walks. we experience God's freedom and works on our hearts continuously. in Christ
-
thank you! i am trying to get a good pic of my son, but he wont sit still!!!!!! i dont think casual drinking is a stronghold. again, this is an example of what i call a grey area. drinking is not in and of itself sinful. but how this pertains to each individual is different making it 'grey'. as i wrote earlier, adultery pertains the same to ALL believers, making it 'black and white'. in Christ
