    Suicide

Guys, Lorax didn't say that he was considering it. He simply asked a question. (EDIT, I said this before I read OneLight's post) Backontrack, in the first place, if you're going to quote scripture, do it right. Exodus 20:13 says, "You shall not murder." It doesn't say kill, but that isn't relevant to suicide. I just wanted to point that out. Suicide is like any other sin that you may commit before you go to heaven without asking for forgiveness. Consider this: If you lie to your friend and don't ask God for forgiveness while you're driving away, and you get killed in an accident on the way home, is God going to let you into heaven? Of course He is! This is the same concept, as you have committed a sin and haven't asked for forgiveness. 1 John 1:9 - "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness." He will forgive you of ALL unrighteousness; not just of telling a white lie, but also of committing adultery. God will forgive any sin save for one- the sin of unbelief: Matthew 12:31-32 31 "Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven. 32 "And whoever shall speak a word against the Son of Man, it shall be forgiven him; but whoever shall speak against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven him, either in this age, or in the age to come." Again, in Mark 3:29 - "But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven; he is guilty of an eternal sin." Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is simply unbelief. Showing a "lack of reverence" for God is certainly forgivable, but when one insults the Holy Spirit, he rejects it, and therefore dooms himself to eternal damnation.

    Religion?

When Jesus is asked if he is the Christ, he replies, "I AM." 60Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" 61But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Christ, the Son of the Blessed One?" 62"I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." 63The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked. 64"You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" They then state that as evidence of blasphemy. This is because those words were holy, authentic; the evidence God gave Moses to give to the people that He was God. (Exodus 3:14)

    Religion?

First, there's a reason why most translations have VERY similar wording- they are based off of the ORIGINAL. Different versions are there for different reasons: easier reading, literal wording, wording that applies to today's world. Second, we are not trying to contain God within a book. On the contrary, Christians try to seek God in everything they do, showing that He is so much a part of everything we do. The purpose of the Bible is to show how to live, following Christ. If we didn't have the Bible, we wouldn't know about Christ's life, and we wouldn't have the faith at all. It is instructional, a foundation for every belief that a Christian holds. One can debate using it, and one can discern right from wrong using it. God is, of course, the author of the book (indirectly), and therefore these are HIS WORDS we're reading.
  4. How many millions did that cost you to interpret, kari?
  5. Argument stealer! I thought of that the first time I read it
  6. Um, lol. First off, the faculty probably never heard of it. Second off, the word "faith" is accepted, just not when talking about Christianity. I realize that you probably understand this. Just pointing it out . Anyways, yes; be bold with the gospel, but be careful...
  7. Maybe you did, but a common mistake is that too much food is the reason that people are obese. In reality, it's lack-of-exercise, although too much food along with that will make it much worse. If you exercise regularly, you will not only lose weight but become more fit.

    halloween

It certainly helps to have background, especially in dealing with subjects like Halloween. It may seem harmless to go out and "trick or treat," but think about why you're doing it and what the holiday is really centered around.
  9. Sometimes, I think Christians are viewed as too "intolerant," such as in situations like when the Da Vinci Code came out. There was such an uproar about it that I think the movie got more business because people wanted to see what the controversy was about. We need to always be wary and discerning.
  10. Yes, all this, and parables are also a great way to make people ask, "What does he mean?" and for them to search deeper.
  11. Amen to that! This museum is the first of its kind (on this much of a scale), and besides, look how much publicity it has gotten! The main problem AiG is having is parking spaces! They are being flooded with visitors, and I think that the protests are helping more than hindering, same thing with The Da Vinci Code, although that was worth being protested.
  12. It's been Ken Ham's dream for years to be able to open up something like this to show the truth about creation and give people an alternative story to the evolutionist propaganda being spread throughout society. I believe you mean 6000-10000, and you are correct in that figure as far as creationists believe. I have pondered that very question about the light from stars, and I have asked about it. There are several theories, but this is AiG's answer: http://www.answersingenesis.org/docs/405.asp
  13. Since I just joined a couple of days ago, I haven't seen this thread until now. I'll make my opening post at this point . First off, yes, Answers in Genesis DOES have educated staff, including several PHDs. I HAVE been to the Creation Museum, 2 months before it opened (my family was given a special tour because we are long-time supporters of AiG). I HAVE had lunch with Ken Ham, Carl Kerby, and Mark Looy (the three bigshots), and they are very intelligent and know what they are talking about. On staff at the museum, they have a man by the name of Jason Lisle who is the only Christian with a PHD (as far as AiG knows) in astrophysics, as well as other top scientists. Don't discredit their education or their evidence.
  14. If I were able to vote, I would have chosen the 4th, a combination of 1,2, and 3, although I'm not sure about 3. I kind of stole this from somewhere (I don't know where), but: The Bible is not a History book, yet its history is accurate. The Bible is not a science book, yet its science is accurate. The Bible is not a story book, yet its stories cannot be disproven. I think that secular scientists are usually misled by their education. They go through secular classes and are taught secular doctrines, and therefore learn to rely on man's answers, not God's. Often, a secular scientist will do lots of research, and will come to the conclusion that God's Word is true, and will become a Christian based on the evidence. Overall, however, worldly scientists are misled and succumb to peer pressure.
