  1. Great examples! I really appreciate a Berean (Acts 17:9-10) or someone who eagerly searches the scriptures for answers. Too many people do things without understanding why. This is why I tithe: Matthew 22:37-40 'all my heart' includes the fruit of my labor Exodus 20:4 nothing on Earth will be between me and my God How much do I tithe? Luke 21:1-4
  2. I do not know what a soul-winning program is. I do know that personal distrobution of the gospel Jesus addressed like this: Great Commission Matthew 28:18b-20 "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." That should be a part of every church
  3. I do not think they are being irresponsible. Actually, quite the opposite. If a discussion of political disputes will create discord between brothers in christ then there is no need to bring it up. Romans 14:1 "Accept him whose faith is weak, without passing judgment on disputable matters." Though, politics need to be addressed in every christians life they need to be addressed in righteous ways. I hope that helps.
  4. OneLight, you got it! I really think this is a good topic. I take a very personal interest in studying the word of God. I wish to know his laws, character, love and grace as best that I can. I do that best by praying, reading the word, seeking advice and meditating. One of my favorite scrips. about 'memorizing scripture' is: "How can a young man keep his way pure? By living according to your word. I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." -Psalm 119:9-11 One small fruit of this is memorization.
  5. This is such cool topic: I work for the Dayton Church of Christ as the campus minister. I often grow weary and consumed with questions like: "Am I doing this for admiration, glory and honor for God or myself?" One thing a wise brother showed me was when David felt the same. 2 Samuel 7:13-29 "Who am I?" Another would be Galation 6:9 "Do not grow weary in doing good" 'sweety cakes' really has something going there: Hebrews 4:12 says, "The word of God is living and active sharpther than any double edged sword...." The trick is that the path is very narrow. Trying will only be used as a tool by satan. trying vs. 'make every effort' "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to. Luke 13:24 The humility required for such a statement as: "I have to admit, in all honesty, that a lot of the passages in the bible cause me great fear and trembling. I would hope that Jesus would NOT turn around to me one day and say 'I never knew you'. I have a hard time living up to what Jesus expects me to. That is a given. But I know that He has 'known me'. I hope that He will continue in His grace towards me, and that He will show me mercy on that last day." is the kind of heart God can mold help 'win the race' 1 corinthians 9:24 thanks for the engaging topic!
