  1. I learned the hard way that the flesh cannot expel the flesh, and this is especially evident when it comes to sexually immoral thoughts. Trying to be a friend to the Law by obedience when the Law condemns us as Law-breakers does us no good. We have to take our sins to the One who was nailed to the tree to save us from them.
  2. I hope my eagle-story hasn't offended anybody. I love Americans - especially those with the same new feathers as me! But "It is better to trust in the LORD Than to put confidence in man" (Ps.118: 8-9) - not even in man's constitution. If you're a Christian, you don't have a nationality in this world - you're a stranger and a sojourner. You WILL be sorely disappointed if you look to man.
  3. This thread is not about eagles - as riel says, eagles are beautiful birds. It's about Christians being strangers & pilgrims in this world and a plea to all Christians not to place confidence in any part of it - the whole Titanic is on it's way to an iceberg, every part of it - because its pilots and crew are blind.
  4. I love your post, riel! How true of eagles! Pearl, this world - every part of it - is a sinking ship. The eagles with new feathers are those with the garment of salvation who don't fully realize yet that they are strangers & pilgrims, and still love one part of this world, expecting that all its eagjes will behave like the ones with new feathers. It's not gonna happen. The whole world is sinking
  5. Forget about a leapord & his spots. You can't tell an eagle he has new feathers and is a stranger in eagle-country. It's not his fault - it's sub-conscious - he grew up an eagle FIRST and then a father, husband, wife, mother in a very patriotic eagle-culture. But if he don't change his feathers in the Kindom of Christ, a lion's gonna pluck 'em out one by one! PS I love eagles!
  6. Alex 73 I think this is an important subject - I actually think it's close to the heart of Jesus, and especially important today I love arrowforgod's example - man, that was good! I think unity of purpose, humility and putting one another first is what we all need to develop as a way of life - and it can only be the fruit of the Spirit, otherwise the ship's crew will turn on one another.
  7. Right. I don't wanna push it but my chief reason for not holding the N.I.U in high esteem is all the verses it omits from the main body of the text and places instead in the footnotes with a comment like "some manuscripts include..." Sometimes doctrine can be affected, were it not for other translations. But that's just my opinion - I wouldn't like the N.I.V to be the only version!
  8. Cobalt 1959, I agree with you. A molehill becomes a mountain. I have at home NIV, KJV, NKJV, NLT, KJV with Strong's Hebrew/Greek Dictionaries, English translation of Aramaic N.T (the Peshita), Complete Jewish Bible. More importantly, the Living Word in my heart and Head of my home.
  9. Aww, shucks, Jim. We're just having fun on a discussion board pointing out the flaws of a version that claims in its foreword to use "the best and oldest manuscripts". Andrew.
  10. Most South Africans are praising Bumama like he's the savior of the world. Should I be worried? Should I watch what he does because Jesus said when the nations are in an uproar, we are to lift up our heads because our salvation draws near? As a South African do I have the right to concern myself with American politics? I don't think it's necessary for salvation, just wise to watch and not sleep.
  11. Quote: Pearl in "N.I.V goofed" translation of Isa.14: 12. No, they didn't - Hebrew words refer to Morning Star - Latin translation = Lucifer because that's the ancient Latin name of the morning star. King of Babylon tried to rise above stars of God, but was brought low. Jesus rose above stars of God after He had been brought low (Rev.22: 16).
  12. Those older texts are the Codex Sinaiticus - text found in the trash-bin in the monastry at Mt Sinai, ready to be placed in the furnace. Some scholar was visiting the place & saved the texts. They contain many deletions & later re-insertions by the early scribes. Beimg moulded
  13. LOLS, Colleenlovesmischief! I remember finding a number of places where the N.I.V translation was flawed enough to affect Christian doctrine, were it not for the other versions which are superior to it. I wonder sometimes how much priority was placed by its translators upon the accuracy of the written word of God while they sought to provide a modern English translation.
  14. It really does not matter wiat the motive was for the K.J.V. The scholars used the same Received Text that was always used by the Greek Orthodox Church, and their dilligence is unsurpassed. The N.I.V is far inferior to the K.J.V, IMO. Being moulded.
