  1. I am fully aware that Jesus told us to love one another. But we are also told not to be yoked with unbelievers. I have some friends who say they are Christian but believe people should be able to love and marry whatever gender one prefers. They believe a person can choose to be a different gender than what they were born as. They have no issues with transgender. They have no issues with biological males competing in sports against females. They believe abortion is a form of birth control. They believe Donald Trump, and many of his family and supporters, are evil and tools of the devil. (They know my husband and I are Trump supporters so that topic is never on the table when we are around, but others have told me their thoughts.) They believe any one who wants to come into America should be allowed to move in and live life here as a citizen with all rights. They believe the police system needs to be abolished. They believe no one should own a gun. There are probably more issues we are not in agreement on but this is enough to start the conversation. How am I able to have any relationship or meaningful conversations with any one who believe like this? It just keeps getting harder and harder to be around those who are not aligned with the values, morals, and ideals of my Christian faith. I tend to avoid them. I tend to make excuses to not be around them due to me feeling uncomfortable and afraid that conversations will go that direction. I have lost several people from my life in the past decade because of my beliefs and their beliefs conflicting. Do I just let them go and let God take care of them? The older I get the less I want any of the drama but what if the Lord wants these people in my life? These friends are not close friends but have been in my life off and on for decades. Thanks for any input or advice on this.
  2. Although it might be that some people of college age and younger, might not know it, but there was a time when it was actually o.k. to talk like this, and not be considered as some sort of primitive, abnormal, hater. In those days, Republicans where not ashamed to be known as Republicans and even Democrats saw little need to be ashamed to be Americans. Now, being that this is a Christian forum, I want to make sure that it is understood that it is okay to have differences of opinion, and that one can be a political 'progressive' and a Democrat and a Christian as well. However, it is my opinion, that there are times to disagree with the leadership of any political party, and hold them responsible to the voters (and even non voters) to do what is right. Ultimately, our leader is God, and our obligations are to Him, but as long as we are an influence in the world, to the degree which we are, we need to follow out consciences before Him on these sorts of matters. I find the passion and conviction of this man, to be inspiring, and the sort of thing we need, regardless of whether we agree with him on this particular position, it is time for boldness in speech and action, and not cowering in compromise to a media that seeks to guide the country as it sees fit.
  3. This has been on my mind and heart a lot lately. A friend said something recently to the extent as follows... "Sometimes it feels the conservatives in America treat liberals like ninevites. Often it seems like conservatives think liberals don't deserve grace or they're too far gone for God to be at work in their lives." Why do we (myself included at times) treat those with a liberal persuasion so? Why do we often make socialism, re-distribution, evolution, abortion, divorce, (and dare I add) homosexuality, etc. as salvation issues or unpardonable sins? When a majority of these are clearly not salvation issues. Food for thought. Anyone care to comment? God bless, GE PS - Just so nobody jumps on that band wagon I do believe homosexuality is a sin. Yet it is not an unpardonable sin.
  4. Hi folks, it seems to be a nice forum, I'm glad to have discovered it! Here, I want to go into the differences between progressive and conservative Christianity (and why that matter). I hope to convey the feeling that you don't have to make a choice between fundamentalism and liberalism (or atheism for that matter). Comments and critiques are more than welcome :=) Lovely greetings from Lorraine (France).
