The original Hebrew word for "speed" in this verse is pronounced "caw-raw" and it means "to land upon" or "to bring about": "And he said O LORD God of my master Abraham, I pray thee, send me good speed this day, and shew kindness unto my master Abraham." (Genesis 24:12 KJV).

The only place that I could find where the term "God Speed" is used is in the new testament as you have said also. But how do you get "God speed" out of "good speed"? The term "Good speed" has too many o's in it.

I think I read them both 5 times before I was 17 Alright!! Wasn't it awesome? I used to get so lost in that book while reading on the bus, at home or anywhere.. one time I was going to school and totally lost in it. Suddenly I realised everyone getting off the bus and when I looked up, I remembered "oh.. this isn't the 1600's anymore".. I breifly disappointed at that time. LoL... That never happened to me with any other book. Is the Captain Blackthorne still in Taipan? Was it better than Shogun in character & plot development?? I really hated the ending to Shogun, I always thought Toragana would be the good guy. My favorite character was Toragana's best friend, what was his name? Iron fist?
