I'm not saying no one has the right to feel angry.

I'm not saying the parents should get off scott free.

But, I know what it's like to be taught that "taking matters into your own hands" is evidence of lack of faith. What if these parents were taught that seeking medical help was taking matters into their own hands?

After all, the members of the prayer group were with them when the girl died!

What kind of "prayer group" was this? Who was the leader? What if the leader had convinced them that to seek man's help was a sin? (I was in a group like this - with a supposed strong spiritual leader guilting and fearing us into doing and believing things no rational person should have.)

What if the real culprit is the leader or leaders of the pryaer group - or the church they belong to?

What if the parents are just as much victims as the little girl?

Any church can be a cult just as much as a formalized religion, you know?

Would your mercy extend to those outside of your faith? Or is there a different set of rules and consequences for them?

If life and death is in the hands of God, how could the parent's actions or iactions have changed that?

Free will Nebula, free will. They willfully denied help to their child, resulting in the death.

--------------------------------------

A poor man prays daily to win the lotto, but does not win. The man then cries up to Heaven, why oh Lord have you not heard and answered my prayer for help. The Lord replies: "Buy a ticket".

Blessings,

It is my understanding that the parents did not know the child was deathly ill, so how could this be "willfully" :noidea:

Blessings,

Nikki

They knew she was very ill or they would not have held a special prayer meeting and I believe they are all responsible for not taking this poor child to the ER.

Blessings,

I don't believe this because they were not charged as such, and the report says the child's condition was undiagnosed.

The parents had no way of knowing. This was a newly developed illness, (diabetic ketoacidosis) that was not yet diagnosed, and no lay person could possible know the seriousness of it without specific certain other symptoms, that could very possibly mimic any less severe illness of any child or adolescent.

It was undiagnosed because the parents refused to have it diagnosed. Obviously it was serious- as a parent this is very disturbing to me and as a fellow Christian it makes me sad to hear about these types of people- from now on if someone asks me to pray for them because they are sick I am going to pray but also ask that they go to the doctor.
