These methods didnt work for me, but many psychologists use them when dealing with cutters, and anything is worth a try.

Theres the thick elastic band around the wrist: when you feel the need to cut, you snap the band just hard enough for it to tingle. Its supposed to make you feel something, and snap you back to reality.

And theres the ice cube: when you feel the need to cut, put an ice cube or two in a ziplock baggy. Hold it against your skin for 1-2 minutes and the sensation should feel similar to that of cutting (this method worked better for me).

Those methods are generally for the addiction to pain (some people need the adrenaline, the endorphin release).

For people who need to see blood, couple one of the above methods with drawing lines on your skin with a bright red marker.

Its like a nicotine addiction, start small and slow, until you're free.

Writing in a journal is always good too, to help you express your feelings.

As always, I recommend that while you are trying to stop, if at any time the need is so great that you feel suicidal, then cut.

Sometimes its neccessary, but ONLY as a last resort.

If you need anything else or if you want to talk, feel free to PM or email me.

Im a cutter too.

Chazy.

Ah, I didnt notice that you said you didnt want to stop.

You need to want to stop, and you eventually will.

In the meantime, a councellor might help.

If you go to a local health clinic or teen clinic, they should have therapists that you can see confidentially, and for free.

You also need to get to the root of the problem, when you do it and why. If you can figure out the main reason that you do it, you can attempt to remove yourself from that trigger. It should make you happier in general.

Chazy.

Chazy, (love that name)

such good advice you gave.

I admire your passion for others, and you are a Sponge-Bob fan!!!!

I wonder if God is going to be bringing someone into my life who needs help because of cutting. I feel so drawn to those that do, and I have received lots of excellent advice just reading through these posts on cutting.

Thanks :-)

Chazy isnt my real name, but it might as well be ;-)

Chazy is short for Chester, and there are a bunch of Chesters in my life. There are a few reasons that it became my other-name. It just fit.

Spongebob kicks some serious butt. Im assuming you figured that out through the "Fess Up" Spongebob thread? Or the "Coming To Toronto" thread?

All you have to do is find a teenager who wears arm-warmers 24/7 and chances are, they cut. Especially amongst Goths, Punks, Artists and people who probably have too many high expecations placed on them.

Of course, this is a bit of a stereotype, or a generalization.

You would be surprised at some of the people who cut.

Angelina Jolie does it, Princess Di had self-injury issues of some form.

Anyways must run.

Thanks again.

Chazy.

I'm going to look rather cynical, and probably like a ******** saying this, but I have to. You have an issue that you isn't being dealt with in a constructive manner. However, what you are really looking for is attention, not an answer. I can tell you how to stop right now, in fact I will, self control. However, you have to want it. It's just like a revolution, if you don't want it to happen bad enough, it won't. Regardless, take responsability for your actions, especially if it leads to suicide or whatever. Don't even begin to blame that on other people.
