True story.....

My grandfather wanted to be buried at sea, his ashes scattered far out to sea.

My uncle, who could not get anyone on a small boat to take him out, hired a small Cessna aircraft and had the pilot fly him a few miles out.

He opened the side window (if you know the plane you know it hinges upwards and can be opened six inches or so in flight), we do it when we take aerial photo's.

He landed about 20 minutes later, and the family members waiting for him were greeted by him and the pilot exiting the plane covered in a fine grey dust.

The interior of the plane took hours to vacuum.

The pilot thought he was going to throw the box out, not scatter the ashes

 oh nooooo

I read about that, around 2 years ago, it says you can basically make a diamond of any carbon biased material, plant or animal, some people have their dogs made into diamonds as well. I understand the sentiment, but yes it is a bit strange.

Saw this on my local news today. I'm not sure yet what I think of it. Cool or creepy? I have lost a lot of loved ones in my life and have often wondered about ways to memorialize all of them. I'm just not sure this would work for me, even if I could afford it!

Make Diamonds From the Remains of Your Loved Ones

Not so different from a fancy tombstone really.

Only those fancy tombstones aren't generally MADE from your deceased loved one's body!

OH, my....

See, this is what I've always worried about when it comes to scattering those ashes. I would be MORTIFIED!

I still find this disturbing.. I can't imagine any of my relatives being created into something that can be sold at some later date. It's such a great evil.. totally undignified if you ask me.

I would not even want my body to be burned up. God gave it to me the way it is and the way it is it will go down to the ground.

Would you prefer a nice china urn with dead fred's ashes on the mantlepiece?

Uhm... no. As much as I love pretty china - I don't want anyone's remains or ashes or DNA over the fireplace... I also would not care to wear them as earrings or a ring or bracelet. As far as a tombstone - I actually love old cemeteries and looking at lovely stones - it's amazing the lengths that people will go to in an effort to memorialize someone... I care little if I even have a marker... I would prefer my family take whatever funds they would spend on a rock (of any type) and feed the hungry and help those who are alive and suffering.
