Attention College Applicants: Admissions Can See Your Facebook Page

Aside from taking standardized test, filing applications and writing essays, high school students applying to college have another assignment: clean up their online lives.

According to a Kaplan survey of college admissions officers, more than 80% said they consider social media presence when recruiting students. While they may not completely base an acceptance or rejection off of social media content, it has definitely become a factor in an applicant

Great post Neb....

A few of my farrrrrr awayyyyy cousins found me on fb. I haven't seen these people since we were in diapers. I had to block their page from mine. But before I did, I shared how this very stuff would one day come back an haunt them. Not only that, but a "special relationship" will be stalled simply because of their lifestyle in the pass and how they acted.

Never have I ever seen women arguing over a man..

Or..

Yeah, she looked at me funny and I told her :taped:

My prayer:

Lord, please let these folks crawl back under a rock!

How can I get this article posted on my page???

There have been several news stories in the recent past about this very thing. People's Facebook page either getting fired because of something they said, or keeping them from getting hired because of what was there.

I overheard a conversation on the train to work one evening where one student was bemoaning to another about how "those party pictures" on their page might have cost them a job . . . I can see that. :) I would be much less inclined to hire someone with pictures on their page that looked like they were straight out of the movie Animal House if I were an employer screening candidates.

I tell my younger relatives this all the time. Especially after viewing some of their content on facebook. I don't understand why folks feel that it's safe. Simply because it's electronic media they feel free to act like they were born in a barn and release the crudest language and content for the whole world to see with no consequences.:noidea::blink:

When our son finished college a few years ago -he had to attend a class about this very thing (He attended VCU - GO RAMS) and was told to be very aware of social networking sites and representing yourself online. I think many colleges offer this training for after college - but from the looks of some socialt network sites - some of them sure didn't heed the advice!!
