We have a lot of small short falts in oklahoma. Actually we have a lot of really small earthquakes all the time, most of them to small and deep to feel. I don't know the name of this fault, but it starts just east and a bit soutn of Shawnee where we live and runs North northeast of us for a bit over 50 miles. We do have many small faults here in Oklahoma..... but obviously they are not noted for moving around like this. When I was in college way back in the sixties, it seems to me that we were told that these small faults could not produce a quake of this size..... Well I can say that this ias been interesting..... I just really hope that it's peaked and we won't be having these things for another fifty or sixty years. I've been around forest fires and floods and tornado's all my life and they can create some real anxiety,,,, but I gotta tell you from my perspective, this is much worse than a tornado or fire or a flood. You can see those things and know or have a good idea when they are gong to be over and pretty much what they will do........ but this..... it just comes from nowhere with the second and third one you start to realize that you have no idea of what it's going to do nor how long it's going to last....... and when you're not used to having these things one doesn't really know if the structure you're in can withstand the shsking, or if it's just going to shake it apart no matter how well it's built. The west coast people can have this stuff...... I really don't need it to have an exciting life LoL

The USGS is providing "Shakemaps" now that seem to match the Modified Mercalli scale. Here's on of the b0006lpf 4.7 quake. Scary stuff eh. I have felt five that I am aware of, The 4.7 yesterday was a good shaker, but we only felt about 15 seconds of it. It lasted at a lower level for about a minute. I felt one today but it was just momentary bagsthat felt like someone ran into the house. It did make a noise though. I went outside to make sure it wasn't a tree limb that might have fallen on the house. I can't emagine what it was like in Japan during that 9.0 thing. Even if one was used to quakes, that had to be down right freightening....... no I'd say terrifying...
Guest
OH, and btw, we still let our kids pray in school here, just don't let the teachers lead them.... and that's not a bad thing. My wife's kindergarten class had group prayers for each other when they were having troubles or someone was sick. Darnedest thing to watch ten or fifteen five and six year olds praying for someone's mother or father or brother/sister when trouble or sickness comes along. Or when one of their classmates is having problems. I don't know what God would be mad at us for unless it would be casino's........ now the devil is another thing...... can he do earthquakes??? He stays mad at our state all the time. :24: Oh So Hallelujah~!
