Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world. Those who want to follow Jesus Christ are the scum of the earth; they are insane; they are detested. Jesus said that we must lose everything to become a disciple. You will lose your wealth and your health, your family and your friends, you will lose everything. There is indeed agreat deal of running after riches in this life more than laying up treasures for ourselves in Heaven...and much of the preaching does not even touch on some of the hard issues about being a Believer and the importance of character and perseverance. There is not a lot of counting the cost. I would also say that many Believers are caught on the roundabout of self-pity and defeat and the Holy Spirit is having to do a constant mopping up operation and keep reassuring them that they are loved and accepted...rather than a building up in the most Holy Faith so that we develop spiritual muscle and get some grit on the inside....we conform to the world too much and as a result are kept on a paltry diet of bread when we should be ravenous carnivores....but you can only eat meat when you have got the teeth to do so. This is certainly the observation made about the Western Church by brothers and sisters in places like China and many Moslem countries where they undergo such severe persecution and are constantly thrown upon the grace and mercy of our Heavenly Father....and are shocked when they come out to the West. I'm just not getting the purpose of the OP.

There's a church for you here in Denver. It's mainly made up of younger 'street kids' who have no homes. It's called 'Scum of the Earth Church,' and evidently a lot of these young kids are finding genuine Christian fellowship there.
