In Genesis, God said go forth and be fruitful and multiply. Meaning go forth and multiply the physical body. In Matthew, Jesus said go forth and make disciples of all nations. Meaning go forth and multiply the Spiritual body.

Let's put it this way. How many people do you know? Would you be able to live a contented life if there was only you and one other person left on the planet or would you be lonely? How many people do you need in this World to feel fulfilled and to be able to experience a variety of different friendships and relationships? Five, ten, a hundred or a thousand? God wants us all to be his children. He wants to be father to a variety of different people, but because of his omnipotence, he can cope with far more than we can. One child is not enough, nor is two or three. God can have a relationship with billions of people. He could have billions of children and still remember all of our names and know each and every one of us. He told us to go forth and multiply because he wants as many children as possible. But of course, if we are not saved then we don't count as being his children. If we reject him, he is no longer our father. So Jesus message was to go forth and make as many children as possible by preaching the word. It's the same sort of thing in Genesis as it is in Matthew, but with a different emphasis.
