If He is your God, why do you not support Me also? You lie when you say you know Him, I would lie if I said that I do not know Him . I prove that I know Him by My obedience to Him. You prove you that you do not know Him by rejecting Me whom He has sent (V. 39-56).
Guest Robert
What Jesus means in this verse is that He is not seeking to promote Himself (as many self-styled "messiahs" had done in the past), but was instead doing the work of the Father in heaven and would leave any glorification to Him. In other words, Jesus was not depending upon men to give Him glory, but the Father. This frees Jesus (and us who follow His example) from seeking the praise of men; instead, we work for the Father and seek His approval.

This translation is not quite accurate. The correct rendering is in the ASV: American Standard VersionBut I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth. Scrivener's Textus Receptus 1894ἐγὼ δὲ οὐ ζητῶ τὴν δόξαν μου· ἔστιν ὁ ζητῶν καὶ κρίνων. So it is God the Father who seeks the glory of Christ, and rightly judges that glory belongs to the Son as much as to the Father. This corresponds to John 17:5: And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.
