It is used to try to open up the door of acceptance that people who use the word tolerance are truly after. Since tolerance was never really the goal of these people it will never be satisfactory for them to tolerate others. They just assume that their adversaries are stupid enough to not see through this little ploy and the fact that they are is the most intolerable situation of all.
