And immediately the king sent an executioner, .. and commanded his head to be brought: .... and he went and beheaded him in the prison,’ (Mar 6:26-27) 'A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.' (Pro 18:7) There does not seem to have been an interval between the king feeling sorry, and his action to have John beheaded. Regardless of his feeling of sorrow, it did not prevent him acting very quickly indeed to implement his oath. It would seem that his own reputation in the eyes of his peers, and his own honour, was of more importance than a man's life. * What a snare these things are aren't they? * How easy it is to want to look good in the eyes of others, to value our reputation before our fellowmen. * How easy to keep silent about our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ for the sake of being accepted by others. * How easy to go along with the crowd, and act in a manner that is dishonouring to the Lord for the sake of their praise. In Christ Jesus Chris PS: A Bible study of the Holy Spirit's use of the word, 'snare', would be worthwhile, for we are not left without warning in God’s Word about these things are we? The way of the world has words with no substance of action... it is pointless fodder for the flame!
