I've been reading an interesting book called Pagan Christianity.  the premise of the book is this-the writers (apparenrly christian) arent attavkung Christianity but point out that many established church practices  are not actually biblical but have been added in the centuries after  and often have pagan origins. In addition to this  there are some detrimental effect of these practices but because they have  been more or less concretized in our tradition , people still maintain them religiously. Here's a sample of their thoughts on sermons

Doesn't matter because the authors are out of order.

A friend of mine actually wrote a book that touches this subject. It's called "And No Religion Too - Thoughts on the Spectator Church".

I actually often say that religion is man made, but Christianity is the belief in what the Gospels have to say. I'm no fan of organized religion of any type, but I still belong to and go to a church for the simple reason that a key purpose of Christianity is to ehnance the relationship/fellowship with fellow believers. It's extremely difficult to do if you are not a member of a church.

So I just found the one I disagree with the least.

I don't go to church on Christmas or Easter. That's when the unsaved all show up. I go the rest of the year.

I'm not JW, but I avoid anything related to Christmas or Easter. They are both userpations of Pagan holidays, and I celebrate Jesus' birth and resurrection every day.

Whatever alternative suggestions this author would come up with (if he even has any), people would find fault as well...so watcha gonna do?

How about heed the word of God as revealed  personally by the Holy Spirit, ask to be led to a body Of Christ and to be put to good service there.

Carping is never good service.

Hi. I suggest that Scott Hamilton's book contains better information, far far better than any naysayer:

"FINISH FIRST Winning Changes Everything"

Work at success by practicing more than anyone else will practice-

Never accept company of losers that seek other losers as company for their despair. Avoid them, avoid them, avoid them.

"Pagan Christianity" by George Barna & Frank Viola.

It is worth reading..even though I do not agree with  some things mentioned

in the book.

Another book - worth reading. .

Seeking negativity is never a worthwhile investment in time. All one finds is negative people seeking yet more negativity as their excuse for railing against God's will for their own life.  Many are direct servants of the evil one doing his mnistry of distraction away from Christ Jesus. In their despair they pull at others to be company  for their misery.
