Gen 2:7 Then the LORD God formed a man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. They are both real, but the only reason we have a soul and spirit is because of the breath of life that was breathed into our flesh/body. Gen 2:7 is all you need to confirm this. Yes, a sinner has a spirit because of the breath of life, but their spirit is not reconciled to God until Rom 10:9. Dead to God, alive in sin. They can't exist without the body because that was God's plan from the beginning, Gen 2:7. There's a reason the flesh/body goes before spirit and soul.
