(Web Link Here) :thumbsup:FORD FUND MAKES RECORD DONATION TO GAY COMMUNITY CENTER IN SOUTHEAST MICHIGAN

  • Ford Fund pledges $250,000 to the construction of a new Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center in Ferndale, Mich.
  • The organization plans to break ground on the estimated $5.3 million facility in the spring of this year. Spokespeople for Affirmations organization say the new center will be open to the public in early 2006.

Ford's grant is among the largest donations ever made from a Fortune 500 company to a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) organization. This donation represents another part of Ford Fund's tireless commitment to support organizations that improve opportunities for those who live in the communities where Ford Motor Company does business. The gift, along with similar contributions from other automotive manufacturers, will bolster Affirmations' efforts to raise $5.3 million to complete the facility.

"Ford is proud to support Affirmations and its partners," said Ford Motor Company Fund President Sandra Ulsh. "The new center will serve as a cornerstone for the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community in the state of Michigan. It will be a place to build and nurture a more inclusive and respectful society." The campaign's top gift of $500,000 came from Allan Gilmour, former vice chairman of Ford Motor Company, and Eric Jirgens head of Eric Charles Designs, of Birmingham, Michigan. As top donors they will also serve as co-chairs for the campaign.

Affirmations Lesbian and Gay Community Center, based in the Detroit suburb of Ferndale, has been in operation since 1989 and provides a variety of programs, services and social opportunities for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals residing in Southeastern Michigan. Affirmations' mission is to provide a welcoming place to every day people where they can have fun, learn, socialize, grow, be supported and find acceptance.

And interestingly enough, going through old topics I learned of Chevy sponsoring Third Day. Quite the difference between standards among the two giants that have always polarized the car-buying community ("Ford stinks, get Chevy!" "No Chevys are terrible, get Ford!") it appears...

There's no proof of that, though, and I wouldn't trust such a clearly biased website. Besides that, what they support as a company, in my opinion, does not have anything to do with their product. A company is going to support what it wants to support, and if Ford made a good product, I would not let it alter my judgment in buying a Ford or not. I would get one of the new Ford Mustangs... those look COOL! Anywho, go to www.snopes.com and check out what's on their website... they haven't finished their investigation of it, but... when they do, it'll have the truth about whether or not Ford really supports that... :P:P

I'll keep that in mind. I should have checked Snopes first, but I forgot about it. I'll try to remember next time.

All of the evidence that Ford does support is is on that www.boycottford.com website. It really isn't debateable.

But, I understand your position. All companies support something that is ungodly. We are in the world, after all.

You're right. It isn't debateable, because the website is clearly biased. Thus, the information that it gives cannot be trusted. *shrug* I sort of take a legal approach to everything 'Innocent until proven guilty' or, in this case 'rumors are false until proven true by unbiased sources'. I took a look at the website... it seems pretty fishy to me. The people who started the website probably drive Chevys... LOL
