They may sense all kinds of things that aren't actually there or happening. They may see things, hear things, taste/smell things that have no basis in reality. They may get really paranoid and separate themselves from jobs, relationships, and more. Because unreal things become real to them - they can become absolutely delusional and insist things are one way when it is not. Example: I had an uncle who was diagnosed as a schizophrenic in the 70's or so. He had bouts with delusions for years. Once, after my mother and dad married, he came to my grandparents house and screamed for them to come with him and hide because he was convinced my father [who was in the Air Force] was coming to kill them all in his plane. To have a "break" is to break away from all that true and real and to live in a delusional world. It's a very serious sickness. …......…………………….. Well, I surely had to look up "spiritual emergency" as I had NEVER heard of it. And did I get an education on that! It has nothing to do with spirituality as in the Christian experience. It's when one has symptoms similar to a psychotic break, but they expand the consciousness of the individual and sometimes lead to artistic expression of all kinds and becoming more and more "open" to things.
