Private Property Rights...No More

Do you own a home? Maybe not for long. The Supreme Court has just ruled that developers can take your home if they want to build office buildings, apartments or a grocery store.

They can take your business as well...

No, this isn't a case of mere "iminant domain". That applies only for public uses for highways and schools.....or to replace blighted areas.

No, now they can obliterate nice, well-kept, manicured neighborhoods for development projects if they wish.

Your home isn't your home any longer. Think about it.

Have you also noticed lately the increase of media attacks against Christians, (particulary Evangelical Christians)?

I noticed a barrage of attacks against Christians for "prosyletizing" or spreading the faith...as an act of intolerance.

Also attacks against Christians who attempt to help gays turn from their lifestyle.

The whole atmosphere is mind blowing.

I'm not surprised that Christianity is being attacked but I am suprised the Supreme Court has decided to take away our most basic of rights....land ownership.

A while back this happened in our town. An entire neighborhood was forced to sell at what the city deemed was a fair price, so tht a highway could be built. In the process, "they" decided that the area needed a facelift, because of the traffic the new freeway was bringing in (need to look good for the tourists, ya know) so additional building were "bought" and torn down. Homes and businesses. Now there are luxury apt buildings there. And, it all belongs to a city official. Of course, I'm sure several attorneys have poured over the dealings, to be sure it was all legit. But for cryin out loud. :24:

Go figure.

Next thing you know, they'll insist on taking my home away....(at 'fair market value').

Here's the full text of the judgment: http://wid.ap.org/documents/scotus/050623kelo.pdf

Here's an interesting "factoid":

Dissenting Judges:

Clarence Thomas - Republican

Sandra Day O'Conner - Republican

Antonin Scalia - Republican

So much for the idea that Republicans always side with the corporate interest. Seems here it's the Democrats doing that.

:24:

(As Michael Savage would say, "The stench from the bench is making me clench.")

Against

----

O'Connor - Reagan

Rehnquist - Reagan

Scalia - Reagan

Thomas - Bush

For

----

Ginsburg - Clinton

Breyer - Clinton

Stevens - Ford

Kennedy - Reagan

Souter - Bush

Everyone knows Clinton was a crook and a socialist, but call it like it is, Republican appointees also voted for this. Just goes to show you can trust neither Republicans or Democrats.

The republic is dead and the Constitution is a dead piece of paper at this point.

Eight states forbid the use of eminent domain when the economic purpose is not to eliminate blight; they are Arkansas, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Montana, South Carolina and Washington.

For once I'm glad to live in Illinois.
