all sons of the Most High.’

But like mortals you will die,

and like rulers you will fall.”

Deut 32. The hosts that were put in charge of the 70 nations after Babel

They conjoured up all the pantheons.

Paul in his ministry calls the followers to discard the old 'gods' and follow Yeshua.

I see them literally as elohim (since that is the actual word that is translated, "gods"). Spiritual beings. But because of their actions, "...like mortals you will die."

82

God presides in the divine assembly;

He renders judgment among the gods:

“How long will you judge unjustly

and show partiality to the wicked?

Selah

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless;

uphold the rights of the afflicted and oppressed.

Rescue the weak and needy;

save them from the hand of the wicked.

They do not know or understand;

they wander in the darkness;

all the foundations of the earth are shaken.

I have said, ‘You are gods;

you are all sons of the Most High.’

But like mortals you will die,

and like rulers you will fall.”

Arise, O God, judge the earth,

for all the nations are Your inheritance.

Thanks, @Still Alive ! :)

The Psalms are indeed inexhaustible.........

Psalm 82 is a special one for me because a re-reading of it, in historical and language context, is what spearheaded the late Dr. Michael Heiser's testimony and mission.

@Still Alive So much personal testimony bound up in this inexhaustible book, indeed. Good when readers truly see it as pointing forward to Christ.

Back in the day I called it "The book of whining". But I definitely see it differently now. :red-neck-laughing-smiley-emoticon:

@Still Alive Well, Jeremiah is sometimes known as 'the weeping prophet' (cf. Lamentations, etc.), but really it shows the importance of repentance and of being cast upon the Lord in dire times of apostasy.

Yes. I tend to think that the better things are going temporarily, the more the whole culture tends to say, "Thanks God, but we got this now." And then all hell breaks loose and there is a sudden revival.

I think we are on the verge of a huge revival.

@Still Alive I do think that beyond circumstances, the pilgrim believer needs indeed to keep 'looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith' (Hebrews 12.2) Who endured the Cross for His people and is now exalted and glorified.

Psalm 110.1 indeed confirms that He is seated in glory.

The Psalms are remarkably Christ-centred........although this should not surprise us, really.
