Hi @Willa Just thought of an application from what we were talking about on the other thread; or at least, the possible perception of an application in the view of some ppl.

Some Christians might indeed say that tattoos might not be inherently wrong if their subject matter is benign, but that they can be a time consuming pass-time and therefore unsuitable, supposedly. (I can see what they might mean.)

On the other hand, having something tattooed for 18 year olds now seems so utterly widespread that so many Christian young ppl are each often earnestly pleased to use their chosen bit of ink as a witness tool; all the young ppl with Bible verses tattooed with whom I have talked seemed to have received them as witness tools, anyway.

It's seemingly so utterly widespread now, anyway; I saw this quote from a nurse:

.......................................................

"Corgiverse RN

At this point- honestly it’s almost a requirement. Every single one of my coworkers is tattooed." reddit dot com

.........................................................

(So one can see that various viewpoints have already been expressed in the poll results so far, if you see, above?)

Most people use them to draw attention to self, not to god.  They express self.  It is the ME generation.

I don't see harm in drawing attention to God.

I mostly see waitresses with them, rarely nurses or professional people.

@Willa

I'm sure you are right about waitresses.

And you are maybe right about hospitals in some areas.

Ppl in other areas do seem to report their prevalence in hospitals; FYI:

On my shift, only three don't have them (of 13 nurses). We have several nurses (including myself) who have visible tattoos; one gal has them on her wrists. ...I've had a few wives tell me of their husbands' tattoos after seeing mine. It's such a sweet, intimate, bonding moment, and I feel so privileged allnurses dot com

Re. drawing attention to God, I reckon that this may have been the motive of your daughter and granddaughter when they went to the tattoo parlor to have their arms done with Bible quotes.

I guess the challenge is always - if indeed it's going to be done - to make sure that the tattoo parlor encounter and whatever ink acquisition really are God-honoring.

I was in a home improvement store the other day and saw a fellow with Phil. 4:13 tattooed on his arm.

Had to stop just to say "always good to meet a fellow believer." :)

Hi @Ps37 ; re. your recent comment, above:

Seems like now a lot of Christians find the prospect of a tattoo parlor visit- not unusually for something faith-based in design - as something to be relished wholeheartedly:

"I struggled with the idea of getting a tattoo. .. I think the pastor's wife has a faith tattoo.... quite a few in my church have faith based tattoos and my friend and I were talking about them....I've seen tattoos that have a lot of meaning like mine. I feel mine is special and thankful I got it. I haven't once felt guilty for getting it."

Probably the Christian guy that you spoke to recently appreciated the encouragement that you gave him, right?

I think also that, as per the comment of godlywoman413, above — far from something that tends to produce a lot of scruples which cannot be overcome, — a tattoo parlor experience (even though it can go over the top sometimes) is something that many Christians tend to pursue wholeheartedly, especially if the design is desired to be God honoring and faith based.

@Anne2 Thanks for your participation in the poll vote.

I definitely thought that opting to remain silent about one's views should be included in the poll response options; so thank-you indeed for your participation.

Thank you. Since you included me here, I thought I should respond. I am so glad you left that option.

@Anne2 You're welcome, and it's likely that being the silent witness to the evidently widespread pursuit of a little tattooing among the most conservative of ppl today is the situation of so many ppl who would otherwise have little or nothing to say about it.
