Hi @Solus Christus Actually, @LiveWire already described earlier the results of his trip to the tattoo parlor:

When I wear shorts, I have a giant cross from my ankle up to lower 3rd of my calf.  No one has ever said, cool, the Cross of Jesus.

Also l can see the thought that their very profusion provides significant opportunity for witness tools.

I read someplace about how a Hollywood producer decided to re-create a 1950s beach scene; but he couldn't easily enough young women who were not tattooed.

I’m pretty sure being heavily tattooed at this point is a job requirement. ..

Every single nurse I know w the exception of the older lady who precepted me (but she’s like 60 so she gets a pass ) has tattoos.

What seems to happen today among so many Christian young ppl is that they appear to pursue getting just a little ink naturally and confidently; and in a faith based design, such as a Bible ref. or short quote or Christian fish symbol <>< etc. on a wrist or finger or foot area, for example. Done in the almost certain knowledge that it will lead to many conversations with other young people during testimony opportunities.

(I guess your daughter-in-law and granddaughter who have had Bible verses inked in - you said of them: 'Both are strong Christians' - would likely think this way, also, if this makes sense from their perspective, if not from yours?)

But of course you are right that "everybody's doing it" is not a reason enough to do it.

With some ppl in various demographics, it seems to come with very strong identification with a motivating cause.

So among military spouses, for example, the design may indicate strong identification with patriotic, faith and family themes.

While I don't buy the idea of actually saying to others "come and join us in the ranks of the tattooed!", yet for example among military spouses the sheer instinct to desire one's dermis to be shot through in those themes with ink is likely to be profoundly strong.
