This will be a sign between me and you for the generation to come , so you may know that I am the LORD who makes you holy. Sabbaths is in the plural. There was the weekly sabbath and also special sabbath days during God's appointed feast. In all a total of at least 60 days set apart in corporate gathering for the worship of Yahweh . The above are man-made reasons to impose their sentiments upon the rest of men. 1. The Sabbath is the day after God restored the earth from a chaos in six days. The word "creation" ("bara" - Heb.) does not appear from Genesis 1:2 onward except when the living creatures were made. The six days are a record of God working to rectify an unnatural state of affairs that He created perfectly in Genesis 1:1 (see Isaiah 45:18). Man was not involved in the WORK. God rested from HIS work. 2. The Sabbath was instituted as God's rest before the fall of man. There were no "different" men on earth. 3. Christ's redemption took place on the fourth day of the week (the time the Lamb was inspected). His resurrection and giving of divine life was "on the morrow after the Sabbath" -the EIGHTH day. His love and truth did not originate on any day. He is love and truth from eternity 4. God's WORK is not to "re-create" us in His own image. His work is to take a fallen man, pay for His sins, impart divine life into the man's spirit (Jn.3:6), transform the existing man into Christ's image (Rom.8:29) and furnish him with a new body made of the same elements. Jesus, Who has preeminence in this, did it after 4,000 years - or FOUR "thousand-year-days" The Sabbath was not given to Adam. The Sabbath was not given to Noah. The Sabbath was not given to Abraham, Isaac or Jacob. No forefathers received any instructions about the Sabbath. The Law governing the Sabbath was given to one small Nation on earth. When God made His New Man from all the Nations AND the Nation of Israel, He abolished the Law by taking it to His death with Him (Eph.2:14-16). God has not given up His desire for a Sabbath. In Hebrews 3 and 4 He alludes to TWO past Sabbaths that He was forced to forego, and the future Sabbath that He will successfully have. In the seventh "thousand-year-day" Jesus will reign on earth and allow the Father to REST. In this time, Israel will keep her Sabbaths, the Land of Canaan will be given her Sabbaths, and the Laws governing the Sabbath will only apply to the united House of Israel (Jer.31:31-33). According to both Old and New Testament prophets, Jesus will rule and subdue God's enemies. That is, WORK (1st Cor.15:22-28).
