A good example that goes against the grain of modern Christian praise music is Michael W. Smith. From my secular experience it is like tiring of hearing the elementary patterns of the party and womanizing songs of rap and pop and craving the philosophical imagery of Led Zeppelin or Tool. God have mercy on their souls. And yes, I find a place to praise God in such music. I love to feel my heart go out to them, having compassion for them as they sit in a darkness I once knew, wanting to cry out that their ways are just an sad imitation of what God provides through the Holy Spirit of Jesus Christ.
