Because Jesus had to be dead and buried for 3 full days according to his own words: 3 days and 3 nights (For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. [Mat 12:40 KJV]) and not partial days as you seem to suggest.  So according to easter tradition he was placed in the tomb on Friday evening, so Saturday evening would be the first full day, Sunday evening the second full day, Monday evening the 3rd full day.

I welcome your comments.

And you should consider that Jesus was raised on the third day and not after the third day if not then it should have said that he was raised on the forth day.

When it says on the third day ( bear with me) it should be the day after the end of their religious Holidays and the day after the end of the Sabath Day is Sunday.

Jesus died on the preparation day and the Friday is called the preparation day because it is the day they were preparing for the Sabath Day because they cannot do many things on the Sabath Day they can do on the day before the Sabath and on the day after the Sabath Day.

Jesus spent three days and two nights according to the Jewish religious Calendar when each day starts at Sunset. For this reason we cannot count the Friday night because it had already pass because Jesus died on the last hours of Friday according to Jewish religious Calendar which in our calendar was Friday late afternoon. In the Roman calendar we have Friday night and Saturday night and Sunday night.  We also have Friday day and Saurday day and Sunday early in the morning. As it is with our Calendar. If we could consider it according to the Calendar of all other Nations Romans and Greek but the Nations of Israel who had their own Religious Calendar and the day started at sunset and finished after a 24 hours on sunset the beginning of the sunset.

With the Roman time keeping we have tree nights and three days.

That would make Jesus statement false for saying he would be dead and buried 3 day and 3 nights...and it does not matter if your following the Jewish definition of a day that starts at sundown or current day that starts at midnight. You still need three days and three nights.

By way I don't believe Jesus was crucified on Friday but on the Preparation day before the Passover which would have been on a Wednesday or Thursday based on the Jewish calendar for that year. The first day of the Passover is treated like a Sabbath meaning their is a Preparation day prior to the first day of Passover.

The one memorial Jesus actually commissioned until he returns is his death (Passover Seder).

Otherwise, if we wanted to keep holidays that actually point to Jesus we would keep the Jewish high

holy days.

The disciples were Galillians and were Celebrating their religious Calendar Holidays the same as the Jews and those Celebrations mark historical events of their history.  Passover was one of them when they were Celebrating their exodus from Egypt and the Passover of the Angel of death over them and did not touch them.

Eventually had included the hope that the Messiah will come on that Day, A Deliverer just like Moses who will deliver them from the Roman captivity.

Jesus told the disciples that from now on you will celebrate the Passover in a different way or with a different meaning and instant of hoping that the Messiah will come to deliver us from the Roman Captivity as God had sent Moses to deliver them from Pharaoh.

The disciples began to Celebrate the Passover from that time on with a different meaning at exactly what Jesus said and then did that he will died and shed the blood of the New Covenant for the forgiveness of our sins and how it has come to pass and how he died and God raised him from the dead and glorified him in Heaven and gave him the Heavens for his inheritance and for every one who believes in him.  This what the believers in Jesus Christ began to Celebrate the Jewish Passover in this way on the same day as the Jewish Passover and they call it Pasha a short for Passover to comunicate that they Celebrate the Passover in the same day as the Jews but with the new meaning that the Lamb of God was Jesus Christ and they are part of him the New Covenant Jesus Christ brought in who open the way to Heavenly Inheritance in Jesus Christ.

You make a point and thank you for that and that's what I found from making a search.

Jesus Was Crucified on the Day of Preparation for the Passover
April 2 Nissan 14 Day of Passover preparation
April 3 Nissan 15 Passover; Feast of Unleavened Bread, begins
April 4 Nissan 16 Sabbath
April 5 Nissan 17

First day of the week

Even that calendar is slightly wrong.  The Passover starts on the 14th of Nissan so the Preparation day would be the day before which would be the 13th of Nissan.

'The LORD'S Passover is on the fourteenth day of the first month at twilight. [Lev 23:5 AMP]

Then you are right. The preparation day was Thursday that week because Friday was the Passover and the beginning of the Feast of the Unleavened Bread and then we have the Sabbath and the first day of the week which is Sunday.  Jesus was crucified at the end of the preparation day which was Thursday and before the sunset or 6 pm with our Calendar and when did he died some time there after.

Then we have three nights and three days Sunday early in the morning.

Friday night and Friday day, Saturday night and Saturday day and Sunday night and Sunday day, early in the morning. Thank you for helping me to look into that and made the search.

Twilight is the period

In its most general sense, twilight is the period of time before sunrise and after sunset.

A definition of twilight meaning, I am not sure what is the definition of twilight in the book of Leviticus.

It has been an interesting and building discussion, and thank you, I got to understand a lot of things, clarity is important. Thanks again.

These is how it goes:

13th of Nissan: (Wed) Preparation Day also the day he was crucified and placed in the tomb that evening.  Passover lambs were slaughtered on the day of preparation.

14th of Nissan: (Thurs) Passover day of celebration | (High Sabbath) Passover evening would have been the first full day in the tomb.

15th of Nissan: (Friday) the women go buy spices to anoint Jesus body but waited until after the normal weekly Sabbath to go to the tomb (Luk 23:56) | Friday evening 2nd full day of Jesus being in the tomb.

16th of Nissan: (Sat/Sabbath) the women rested | Sabbath evening would have been the 3rd full day in the tomb and Jesus would have been resurrected on the evening of the Sabbath.

17th of Nissan: (Sunday) the women show up to the tomb with spices on Sunday morning but Jesus was not there he had already been resurrected the night before.

After sunset on the 14 of Nissan the specific time the 14 day starts at sunset on the end of Preparation day.

That makes the Calendar correct to a tee.

It said Nissan 14 at sunset of the end of Preparation day at about 6:pm in

Sabath Day is the 16 beginning from 6:pm on Friday to 24 hours to 6:00 pm on Saturday when Sunday starts the 17 day of Nissan.

Friday the 15th ends the time Sabath Day begins at 6:00 pm on Friday.

And Friday the Passover day  starts the time the Thursday the 14th ends at 6:00 pm our time on Thursday the beginning of twilight time. (From sunset to sun rise) their days began at Sunset. This is the beginning of the 14 of Nissan at the Sunset on Thursday evening that makes the Preparation day to begin 24 hours before that from 6:00 pm on Wednesday to 24 hours 6:00 pm on Thursday evening at sunset the beginning of the twilight time of the Passover.  The calendar is correct. With the Leviticus day time.

The day begins at sunset and for 24 hours.

Nissan the 14 Friday begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday and twenty four hour before that is the Preparation day. Six hours before is 12 noon time another six hours before is 6:00 suppose Sunrise. This is twelve hours in the Preparation day another six hours before is midnight for us for Wednesday to Thursday. Now we need six more hours to complete 24 for the Preparation day to know when it starts and that will be from midnight to 6 o' clock or 6:00 pm Wednesday the beginning of the Preparation day. A day is 24 hours. And will end on 6: pm or sunset on Thursday the Preparation day with the sunset on Thursday the Passover starts the 14th of Nissan Starts the beginning of twilight at sunset. To see the Calendar correct needs to see it with the beginning of the day the 14th at the twilight the beginning of the twilight that is the end of the Preparation day at twilight.

We start at midnight but they start the day 6 hours earlier at 6:pm at that time of the year the sunset could be around 7:pm.

Preparation day starts at sunset of Wednesday at about 6:pm according to their Calendar but according to their calendar is the beginning of Thursday the Preparation day.  April. And runs for 24 hours till the end of Friday the at 6:00 pm the beginning of the Sabbath day which the 15th of Nissan Day. And then 24 hours at sunset on the Sabath Day which the 16 the beginning of Sunday.

You are right the Calendar is not precise it is incorrect it failed to distinguish that the new day starts at the sunset of the previous day.

From our calendar there is an overlap from 6:00 to midnight we still have Wendsday but they are six hours onto Thursday.  Thank you for discussing it and for your persistence.
