They walk through life without the armor of God, which Paul spoke of in Ephesians chapter 6. They do not test the spirits because they know not God's Word. They fail to acknowledge that our "enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour". [1 Peter 5:8b] In other words, they are not prepared to defend themselves against deception and fall prey to the snares of the evil one.

Very true! God bless you Silentprayer. I was afraid you were going to misread me as a "know-it-all". I know your question was mostly rhetorical. I too am confused, as you are, as to how intellegent people can fall for such far out stuff... and then the Word of God reminds me that Jesus told us to expect this. I'm listening to the 7th Book in the Chronicles of Narnia (great series by C.S. Lewis) where a false Aslan (Aslan is the Christ figure) is prowling Narnia and leading the inhabitants to do crazy destrutive things. The King of Narnia knows the truth and why? He knows that this is a false Aslan because he knows the real Aslan. When we know the true Jesus Christ as revealed in the Word of God, which is one in the same, we are less likely to be fooled, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." [Romans 8:38,39] Praise God!!! (Thanks Giaour for the correct spelling of Aslan) Edited February 23, 2006 by Wayne B.
