Why does anyone believe the UN will do any better now than they've been doing in the region?

Not if Kofi Annan has anything to say about it. Today he accused Israel of intentionaly attacking a U.N outpost and killing 4 U.N. soldiers. Kofi is an evil man and does not deserve his position if his primary goal is not peace. His comments and accusations show a clear and undeniable bias against Israel despite the decades of abuse Israel has suffered at the hands of terrorists. Even if the U.N somehow moved 20k troops to guard the border, someone like Kofi Annan would write some stupid directive preventing them from defending anything but their own butts.

Which might explain why the UN has done nothing for Somolia, either.

I'll been praying for all of the INNOCENT people regardless if they reside in Israel or Lebanon. Thank God the U.N. is there in such cases. Contrary to your closed-box thinking it's not a liberal politic view. It's a humanitarian view and may the Good Lord will grant you a wee bit of it one day soon.

So is your view that the UN is an effective organization that deals even handedly with all parties and is consistent in implementing its own resolutions?

Regardless of how ineffective the U.N. is/will be.... praise God that some are helping effectively now and showing the love of Christ.

full article --->Samaritan's Purse Reaches Out to Needy in War-Torn Lebanon<---

...Many of the families displaced by the violence have taken shelter in schools, public buildings or out in the open. Samaritan's Purse is working through its ministry partners in the area to provide food, cooking utensils, blankets, and other needed items to destitute families...

...One thing that has been interesting, the ministry spokesman says, is that "many Muslims have asked, 'Why are you Christians doing this?' -- and it has started a dialog." He says this crisis has softened the hearts of many Muslims in Lebanon to the spiritual truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Also, Isaacs observes, a number of Muslim families have asked for Bibles. "So, where people are asking us for it, we're making that available -- that's up to them," he asserts. "As I said, it's a very difficult situation, and resources are tight right now."

Samaritan's Purse is urging Christian believers in other countries to help by giving generously in support of the outreach efforts, and by praying for the Israeli and Lebanese civilians caught up in this latest conflict in the Holy Land. Also, the ministry's website urges, believers should pray for local Christians as they minister to suffering families, pray that these evangelical workers would be effective in sharing the gospel, and "pray for the peace of Jerusalem."

full article --->Crisis in the Holy Land: Samaritan's Purse is helping Lebanese and Israeli families caught in the crossfire between Israel and the Hezbollah<---

In northern Israel, thousands of Israeli families have rushed to the south or taken cover in bomb shelters to escape the barrage of Hezbollah's Katushya rockets. Samaritan's Purse is helping provide food parcels to hungry Israelis living in the underground shelters. (The Israeli government has one of the world's most advanced emergency response systems and accepts very little aid from international relief organizations.)

Across the border, Lebanon faces a humanitarian crisis of major proportions. More than 750,000 Lebanese civilians have fled their homes to seek refuge in northern Lebanon and Syria. These refugees, most of them women and children, are in desperate need of food, shelter, and other necessities.

Samaritan's Purse is assisting the refugees through a network of local evangelical churches led by our longtime ministry partner in the Middle East. With our help, Arab believers are providing destitute families with food, shelter, blankets, sleeping mats, cooking supplies, and other essential aid

. . . But the effort exists and there is much to be said about ANY humanitarian effort.

OK - we'll officially designate the UN as a world humanitarian relief organization.

But as a peace organization? Does the term "lead balloon" mean anything to you?

Dear Eric is, of course, refering to the UN's faliure to implement Resolution 242.

Funny amor, the Palestinians rejected Res 242 in Oct of 1968 because "the implementation of said resolution will lead to the loss of every hope for the establishment of peace and security in Palestine and the Middle East region." It is a bit disenguous for the Palestinians to decry the failure to implement a Resolution they rejected in the first place. The resoution calls for the Arab world to accept the right of Israel to exist in secure recognized borders, which they refuse to do. That is the root cause of terrorism perpetrated against Israel, and the wars instigated by the Arabs to annhilate Israel.
