Thank-you!

(And I agree, LR - the pic of Thor is cooler looking.

Speaking of Thor, have you seen the Ultimate Avengers DVD's?)

(Sorry, Stephen - a couple of SciFi fantasy geeks on Board. )

I wrote the article - it is my story and my work.

Thank you for the compliment though.

I wish that had not happened to me but it was so profound that I have been writing and re-writing about it most of my adult life.

No problem. Actually, I still haven't gone to read the original post link. I have read so many of them in my life that I didn't really need to read it as I know the arguments by heart.

For those who laugh off this issue really need to understand our responsibility to God when it comes to how we teach our children. I have more of my writings on this issue that I can add, but I assume they are covered by others many times over.

I laugh at the way it is done most of the time, not at the questions posed by this issue, there's an important difference.

I was crushed when I found out Santa was a lie. What made it worse was...we had a healthy sense of play and fantasy. I knew faeries weren't real but at the same time when someone caught butterflies and put them in a jar...and told me to close my eyes and let them out just under my hands so I could feel them fly away and leave 'faerie dust' on my hands it was "fun." Why my parents couldn't have presented santa that way I have no idea, it would have just been "fun." There would have been no lies, just fantasy, and I knew the difference from a very early age. I don't believe in lying to your children, though I have no qualms about fantasizing with them.

For many people, particularly children, if the issue is not handled a certain way, the secular celebrations, like Santa, can take over the holiday of Christmas. Now, as such this is not a sin cause there is no obligation to celebrate it in the first place. however, most people use the holiday to teach children the truth about the nature of Jesus and this fat dude kinda gets in the way. so for most people, those who don't want to take the time to teach the kids about St Nicholaus and his generosity and tie it back into the notion of Christian charity and gift giving and birthdays...it's of no use and should be discarded.

I'm not about don't all the time, but I do believe some things are just not helpful
