My Preach always says, "If you can't write in your Bible put it on a shelf and get one that you can write in". That's how strongly he felt about the importanence of note taking. He tought us that the Bible is our manual to life. However, I have had a new pastor teach me that it is Holy and deserve to be respected as such.

There is nothing wrong with taking notes in a bible. It's cool to look back on what the Lord showed you, etc.

I highlight and underline in my Bible, too. I wouldn't write anything irreverent in it, though.

The pages, lettering, and binding of of the Bible are not holy. The words are.

TIP: use coloured crayons to highlight passages. the crayon will not bleed through to other pages. and colour-coding is a very effective way of taking notes.

One thing about writting in my Bible that does concern me is this: I've always said that the word of God is like a taste test. I believe that God's word has one defenant meaning, but sometimes when your blindfolded it could be that the tuna melt your tasting is infact a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich.

Amen, agreeing with all of you! It's the message that is HOLY, not the actual article of the book itself.
