The best thing I can tell you is to avoid gimmick diets. You need to find something that can be a true lifestyle change. Really, if you ask me, the way to go about it is to eat several servings of vegetables a day, try to eat only 2 or 3 servings of red meat a day, eat a high fiber breakfast like Raisin Bran or Oatmeal instead of bacon and eggs, eat very little fried foods, do not eat any fast food at all (other than maybe subway), avoid hydrogenated oils like the plague (they are terrible for you, real butter is much better for you the margarine), and avoid high fructose corn syrup when possible. Also, only eat when you are actually hungry and keep food around the house that requires cooking to eat, rather than a bunch of snack foods. Keep fruit around for snacking instead of snack foods.

That will be a healthy diet that a person could actually stick with. However, you might not actually lose much weight on it. The key to losing weight and keeping it off is regular strenuous exercise. Meaning, doing a form of exercise 5 days a week, for at least 30 minutes at a time, that is so strenuous that you would have a hard time holding a continual conversation while doing it.

The best form of exercise for general fitness and weight loss is running. I will give you a personal example. I am 30 years old. I started running about a year ago. I am 6,1 when I started running I weighed about 195. At first I could not run that long before I had to stop a walk, but my mileage increased fairly quickly. Simple: calorie in / calorie out.

Burn more calories by exercising and consume fewer calories by restricting what you put in your mouth. Eat a healthy and balanced diet. Don't fall for all the gimmicks. They do NOT work!

These things worked for me:

Eat a balanced diet.

Eat only when you're hungry, but, eat moderately.

Keep busy on things/activities/hobbies

that can occupy your attention enjoyably.

It takes a lot of discipline and mental conditioning

but you can help yourself if you really want to.

Do it in 3 weeks straight and you'll get used to it.
