I call it burying the old man!! I did it when I felt that the enemy was getting too strong in my life and I showed him that God is in control. But it is not critical to your salvation! Guest stevej
Let me say upfront...this is not to start a debate over denominations, etc. Sweethour, depending on the church you attend, it may be considered necessary. Some denominations believe that if you backslide you lose your salvation and baptism is necessary again. I do not believe this. Once a person is saved the only requirement is and should be repentance (recognizing the sin, asking God for forgiveness, and walking away from the sin). My mother struggled with this for years and finally got peace about the issue. The enemy would attack her weak points and tell her she was not saved..that a saved person would not do such thins, etc. She would march down the aisle and repent and then want to be baptized. Finally, a wise old pastor looked at her and said You are saved. What is the point in getting dunked? Once she really understood the concept of repentance, the issue of rebapism ceased. That's my 2 cents worth.

Married couples sometimes renew the wedding vows, right? Some do this to reaffirm their vows to each other, even though they would remain just as married if they didn't. Same idea with being Baptized again. You remain just as Saved if you don't, but doing it again may help to renew the vigor for Christ one might have had years ago. Peace, t. I don't think so. I heard of occasions where one may not have been saved when first baptised so rebaptism was advised.

Then you are baptized regardless of which denomination baptized you. You cannot be re-baptized.

It has been interesting seeing the different views on whether or not re-baptism is necessary. I believe that baptism is a personal act of obedience that everyone should do once they've accepted Jesus Christ. As for re-baptism as many have stated, I do not believe it is necessary even if one has turned away from the faith. Repenting and asking God for forgiveness is sufficient. I believe if re-baptism is necessary then we would probably (let's be real) have to be re-baptized every day. Anyway, I heard the question on a TV program and thought I'd ask it here. Blessings to all.
