If you're claiming you're tithes and offerings on your taxes, are you really giving?

Yes...anyway, when you think about it, tithes basically were the ancient Hebrew's taxes, because they were under a theocracy.

How much of their tithes were given back to them?

You know, I am not even sure how I would spend or save ot invest, it. I know 10% of it will go to my church, thats for sure.

Probably pay off my parents' house and make a major downpayment on the place of my own. With the money my parents save from not paying mortgage... I am sure they can find a good way to use it.

I would like to buy a new car with some of that money too.

Also, partially sponsor our next missionary trip.

I donno, I think thats it.

Yes! You are giving. so what if you can keep the Government from stealing the money you work for??

Yes! Surely you're not implying that excessive taxation is Biblical?

It depends on which tithe...there was the temple tithe, then there was the money given for the poor, then there was the money given for a variety of other purposes. If you tally it all up, the Hebrews gave--rich or poor, mind you for nobody was exempt--a whole lot more than our highest marginal tax rate.

If the government gives you a break, being a good steward would insist that you take it. If you feel guilty about taking the money back, which is yours in the first place, then give it away, but keep it out of the hands of the government!

Didn't Christ say"Render to Caesar"?

If I'm not mistaken, that is a ref. to paying taxes.

Yes it is. And if Caesar, in his benevolence, allows you a portion of it back in kind, why not take it?

Honestly, the things I really want in life are things that money cannot buy.

And i do when i have to. When i don't then why give to ceasar. The government steals money from its people. This country the money is NOT the governments. It is the peoples money. Caesar was a emporer, it was his money that he coined and distributed. The money today is privately owned. It is our time, effort and labor converted into a hard coinage that we use to trade. The government doesn't have any right to it whatsoever.

The ONLY way the government can take it from us is through the threat of death. They take our money at the point of a gun and distribute it to those who don't deserve it. Wealth re-distribution.

When the government becomes responsible with what money they steal from us, then i will reconsider. But until then, they are nothing but Jack booted thugs taking what is not theirs.

I confess I have an almost "0" interest in money. My mind doesn't conceive of an amount more than, say, fifty bucks.

I am just as happy without a whole lot but really though, i would love to have enough for my basic needs and every now and then get something i want like a new woodshop tool. I make all kinds of wooden things.
