Psalm 137:8-9

8)O Daughter of Babylon, doomed to destruction,

happy is he who repays you

for what you have done to us-

9)he who seizes your infants

and dashes them against the rocks.

Ezekiel 18:23

23)Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign LORD.

Rather, am I not pleased when they turn from their ways and live?

They both assume to know exactly how God feels about killing.

David says, "happy is He..."

whereas Ezekiel says,"Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked?"

Clearly a contradicting of emotions in how God feels about death, whether innocent children or wicked men.

The Chicago statement doesn't "validate" my belief, AK, it simply clarified the issues of personalities affecting scriptures.

In this passage in Psalms the emotions depicted by David were accurate and true for the Babylonians did grave harm to the Southern kingdom of Israel they burned the city of Jerusalem took all the holy vessels out of the temple and were cruel to God's people as they became captives and were marched away into captivity. And those in this position from their enemies it was a good thing if the Babylonian children were killed as infants as they would grow up only to mistreat them as the Babylonians had no respect unto the God of Israel just read the book of Daniel to see what kind of people they were. So what emotions were expressed here were true emotions coming from the oppressed people of God in Babylonian captivity at the time. But Babylon was doomed to destruction in time.

Here it is God expressing Himself as these emotions are true from God as well for He doesn't take any pleasure when the wicked die in their sins without God. But instead God is very well pleased whenever a person turns from their wicked ways back to Him and thus is saved for doing so and can have eternal life should they die.

No, there are no contradicting emotions the emotions expressed were true emotions being conveyed to us. Not having an understanding of what is being said in the passage makes a big difference in the interpretation of things. But each of the passages of scripture is the correct emotions that was meant to be portrayed no contradictions at all.

None, that is not saying that God would be happy. That is a style of speaking (in this case song writing) where David is saying that the one who conquers Babylon is going to enjoy it
