I'm sorry, but an elk eating Tula Beans will emit more greenhouse gasses in a year than a million Israeli candles over the course of Hanukka! Maybe we should hunt down those Elk and kill them!

I think I'll get my Elk license next year; It's my duty to the planet......

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You did not get yours this year? What were you thinking, we together could have eliminated all that CO2 from this years total amount!

What about not cutting down Christmas trees? That would help the environment wouldn't. Think of the thousands of "live" Christmas trees that are sacrafised every year in the name of Christmas.

I am amazed that one candle from each household would create that much carbon dioxide. I wonder if they are going to start putting banns on all candles. I know that many many house holds burn candles every day. And now with those new Fabreeze candles there will be more burned per household, probably one in every room.

This is interesting, I'm wondering where it will lead... :33:

That's a very good point, Biblicist, and one that I'm happy to agree with you on.

Candles have been in fashion here in America for the past couple of years. That includes all those scented Glade candles (That smell horrible, by the way) which contain Lord knows what chemicals that require heat to activate.

So where's the campaign against the SC Johnson & Co.?

In fact, environmentalists should want candles to be burnt. The more that people use candles as alternative sources of light, the less they use non-renewable energy sources like Nuclear and Coal power.

Anybody else see how backward these people are?

You would have a point if the guys proposing using less candles in anyway represented the mainstream environmentalist community.

Well the article doesn't say that they don't....does it?

Where's the statement from the groups that do represent the "mainstream environmentalist community" disagreeing with the message of those (apparently) few "non-mainstream" groups?

I'm with you Ovedya. :33:

These folks need to get real jobs and move on with their lives. Their way too busy trying to make mine more complicated with junk science and Global carbon taxes. It's just a bid at removing personal freedom, undermining liberty, National Sovereignty, and now apparently Religion in an appeal for One World government, Socialism, Ecumenicalism, and less personal freedom.

It's funny they have no problem whatsoever with China or even Marxist regimes polluting.

It's always Democracy's.

Peace,

Dave

Does the Southern Baptist Convention need to issue an official statement every time some hillbilly spouts off something ignorant?

Environmentalism is mainstream. The majority of Americans believe in preserving public lands. The majority of Americans support more stronger CAFE Standards, are against drilling in ANWR, are for government action to curb Carbon Emissions, are for the Endangered Species Act, for mandated efficiency improvements with appliances and A/C, and so on and so forth. Poll after poll has shown for 2 decades now that the general public is virtually in lock step with the positions of mainstream environmental organizations like the Natural Resources Defense Council, The League of Conservation Voters, and Environmental Defense.

So in response, extremists on the right have tried to paint all of the environmental / conservationist community by the actions of the most radical environmentalists. The eco-nazis that torch SUVs and the nutjobs that opt for less candles are no more representative of the environmentalist community than Fred Phelp's bunch is representative of Christian Community.

On Environmental Defense's website there are 313 articles on China.

The fact is, to put it bluntly I don't think you guys don't know anything about the environmental movement. The only thing you guys know about it is how the cons on the right, guys like Limbaugh and Coulter, have characterized it. Of course, they don't know anything about it either. I think if you looked at the positions of mainstream environmental organizations like the NRDC, Environmental Defense, and The Nature Conservancy, you would find that their positions are pretty mainstream.

Poll after poll has shown for 2 decades now that the general public is virtually in lock step with the positions of mainstream environmental organizations like the Natural Resources Defense Council, The League of Conservation Voters, and Environmental Defense.

"The majority of Americans" have no idea what CAFE standards are, are barely aware of the issues surrounding ANWR, and hardly know what the Endangered Species Act says. Sorry to say it, but you and I both know very well that "the majority of American's" don't have the same critical thinking skills that the minority of Americans possess. They simply believe that they are told. Which is, by the way, why the the propaganda about Global Warming has simply "stuck" with mainstream America. Repeat something enough times and the majority will start to believe it.

Ever wonder why 9/11 seems now like barely a blip on the radar screen? It's because it doesn't get enough press! The only reason that Environmentalism is even remotely "mainstream" is because it's getting press saturation. Give it another couple of yeara and Environmentalism will begin to fall out of fashion.

Funny you should bring up Fred Phelps as an example. Because every time he spouts off something ridiculously hateful and bigoted the "mainstream" Christian denominations quickly disowns them. Not really a very good example.

Yes, I know, mind numbed robots and such. :hmmm:

Now who is being high minded? :)

Brother you really give us no credit for critical thinking skills.

Yes, I am a conservative. This does not mean that I think we should feed dog food to the elderly and indigent, destroy our natural resources, or mistreat animals, etcc... adnauseum........................................................

I am a conservative exactly because of critical thinking skills. I am for reasonable and sound public policy, not based on emotion or conjecture, just like our forefathers.

Does that mean I side with every conservative thought or opinion? Nope.

Give us some credit brother and stop trying to divide and conquer based on ideology, it's ruining the country and the fact that you see all conservative Evangelical Christians as "some hillbilly" because they don't agree with everything you say is a little bit impolite, to say the least.

Peace,

Dave
