Okay, someone scratched up our new vehicle in the parking lot and didn't leave a note. It's deep: the paint is gone in a few places (not over the whole area), so it's not something they can just buff out. Anyone had this happen? How much did it cost you? I've scheduled a couple appointments for estimates, but they're not until late next month because of labour shortages and this is a very busy time of year for them in these parts. Can anyone help? I'd like to stop worrying about it and get some sleep tonight.

Many used car lots have one or two painters that will match paint and cover scratches. You might ask around. Theres no need to paint an entire panel when you can do this.

It's a Lexus, so I kinda want to at least get a quote from the people the dealer recommended. I've gone to a couple of other places I trust for quotes, too, but it's all going to take so long because labour's short everywhere.

When my husband backed into a telephone pole (lol he still gets embarrassed when I bring it up) last year with our old car we took it to an autobody repair place and they told us we'd have to repaint the entire bumper. The scratch on our car looked very similar to the scratch on your vehicle. He quoted us $400. We asked how much it would be to do just the part of the bumper that was scratched and he said there was no point really because he had to take it all off and whatnot and it just made more sense to do the entire thing. We didn't end up doing it because we bought a new vehicle a month later and traded the old one in.

But since its a lexus, I would for sure go to a lexus dealership and have them deal with it there. Then at least you know you'll get the right paint. I've been bumped into twice with my old car and both times the bumper was replaced it was never the right color because they had to try and match the paint. It drove me insane.

lol since you have that nice tax return you might be able to afford the repair eh :thumbsup:

*laugh* yeah, at least there's that! I tried the Lexus dealer already...they only buff out shallow scratches. They gave me the name of the company they always refer people to, though, so we have an estimate scheduled with them.

I know nothing about the laws in Canada. Do you have insurance?

Even in Canada, insurance is a must, but I don't think I'd claim something as insignificant as a paint scratch. Body shops can do an awesome job of matching paint. I scratched my VW Thing, which although is over 30 years old, the restored paint job is just a couple of years old, so, I took it to a body shop in town and they fixed it up perfectly. It set me back just a couple or three hundred dollars.

Of course I have insurance, but as Marnie said, it's not worth claiming for the amount the premiums will go up. Unless it's over $1000 (oh Lord, please don't let it be THAT much!) I won't bother.
