Genesis Chapter 4 verse 16

And Cain went out from the presence of the Lord, and dwelt in the land of Nod, on the east of Eden.

Does anyone have any thoughts on the location of Nod, or know of any references in the Bible, otherwise than the above, that refers to a possible location of Nod. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

According to the two study Bible I consulted, Nod means "wandering." It would appear that perhaps Cain was a nomad, wandering in the land to the east of Eden. Eden is generally thought of as the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, the Fertile Crescent.

Yes, I think it generally translates as the "land of wandering."

But I don't reckon Eden was contained within the borders of the Tigris and Euphrates though, however i'll look at that.

Thanks

We should also remember that the world would have been radically changed after the flood, so it's probably hard to say that anything was similar then to what it is now.

Look at a map. You see where the Tigris and Euphrates flow out of the Red Sea? Well, there are 2 old dried up river beds going to the east and west in that area. It is speculated that Eden was somewhere around there because the book of Genesis mentions the tigris, Euphrates and other rivers flowing out of eden., so Nod would be somewhere to the east if that's where Eden was. But as said above, earth was changed after the flood, so we really won't know the exact location, especially this side of heaven.

Thank you guys,

I found this old map on the internet, take a look and let me know what you think. I'm trying to get access to older maps, so if you know of any others post a link.

Here is what my research found . . . there even a map at the bottom showing both places. Nod truly is almost due east of Eden :sherlock:
