i DON'T BELIEVE THAT SPIRITUAL GIFTS ARE STILL IN USE TODAY. LOOK AT 1 CORNTHINS 13 (i THINK) i DON'T HAVE MY BIBLE WITH MT IF NOT IT'S 14. ZBUT AS PAUL SAYS THAT WE PRAY IN PART AND PROPHECEY IN PART (IN TAKING ABOUT SPI5ITUAL GIFTS) bUT WHEN THAT WHICH IS PERFECT HAS COME, THAT WHICH IS IN PART SHALL BE DONE AWAY WITH. THE USE OF ThE WORD THAT SIGNIFIES AN OBJECT . BACK WHEN THE SPIRITUAL GIFTS WERE IN USE, THEY DIDN'T HAVE A BIBLE. tHEY HAD TO USE SPIRITUAL GIFTS TO TEACH ABOUT THE LORD. NOW WE HAVE THE BIBLE WHICH IS "the perfect" NOW THAT WHICH IS IN PART(GIFTS) IS DONE AWAY WITH.

Every spiritual gift that is ever mentioned in Scripture is still in operation today---as long as there is the Church. Each gift is for the establishment and/or edification of the Church in the world and until the PERFECT---Jesus Christ COMES, we will continue to need them. When Jesus comes again, and gathers His Bride, the perfect church without spot or wrinkle, and sets up His Kingdom on Earth--then and only then will we not need the gifts. We will have Him, and we will already be perfected, complete.

The verse to which you refer does not mean what you think it means:

1 Corinthians 13:8-10

Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever! Now our knowledge is partial and incomplete, and even the gift of prophecy reveals only part of the whole picture! But when full understanding comes, these partial things will become useless.

I think 1st Cor 13 clears up that whole issue. I don't think they are. I've seen churches on TV go through the tongues thing, I've seen pastors put their hand on a convulsing guy and pray in tongues, I've seen people say that they've been healed by their pastor's hand, etc.

I personally don't think that's true stuff today.

This is a case of unbelieving believers. Where does it say in scripture that signs have ceased or that gifts have been withdrawn? Signs confirm the word and gifts confirm the believers.

And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Mark 16:17-18 (KJV)

For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance.

Romans 11:29 (KJV)

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

Matt 7:11 (KJV)

Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7 Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8 Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness. 9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. 10 Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;

Romans 12:6-10 (KJV)

Now ye are the body of Christ, and members in particular. 28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues. 29 Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles? 30 Have all the gifts of healing? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret? 31 But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.

1 Cor 12:27-31 (KJV)

Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church.

1 Cor 14:12 (KJV)

But how long will we have these gifts?

Wherefore he saith, When he ascended up on high, he led captivity captive, and gave gifts unto men. 9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth? 10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.) 11 And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; 12 For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: 13 Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ: 14 That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive;

Eph 4:8-14 (KJV)

I have seen the gifts in action. They are definitely all working just fine in believers who are equipped by God to be in the business of building the Church--which is what they are for.

People don't really have a right to have an opinion about them being absent today when they veryt clearly are anbd Scripture makes no mention that they have ended. there is no reason for them to end as long as Jesus Christ is still busy building His Church.

Dr Barlow, this is a common statement that looked at by a 9 year old comes undone. im not at all beign sarcastic either, if ive had a dollar for everytime i have set this heresy straight i would be a very prosperous man too. The scripture states 'when that which is perfect has come' when you run your reference on 'perfect' with other scriptures which is called 'rightly dividing the Word of God' you wll find it is referrng to Jesus. He has not yet come the second time and if you look at the quote it also states that knowledge wll cease, knowledge hasnt ceased although i would have great stregth in claiming it has when people quote this silly notion. i am speaking wth all the authority of the Word of God on this and have not met a person in 15 years of seriously busy mnstry who can debate myself scripturally against the gifts being in operation today. i also come with the authroity of 15 years of ministry operatng in these gifts regularly as well as training people in them, we see healings and manifestations of the Spirit on a regular basis and the necessary long term christian fruits that truly show a converted life to christ from sin as a resulkt of us using the gifts. Unfortunately you have missed the whole point of the young lady and have found yourself one who has fallen into the pool, ie: if you dont know that God has suppled agift to his church to help you when your ill or need some form of assisstance then you can suffer when all the time it was never God's will at all, but rather your lack of understanding the power of the Cross and all ts paid for or your failure to want to try and put faith in God for these things. respectfully Apostle Dorian.

I'll stay and fight. My church is full of people who really love God and I have learned alot there. In my veiw which doesn't really account for anything I believe that in a whole we're so intent on learning how to be good christians that we've forgotten what the church is suppose to be. I remember one Sunday a few people same forward during the alter call. Two for church memebership, one for salvation. The appluads the two recieve for wanting to join the church was way louder then the applauds for the one coming for salvation. My whole spirit seemed to stand still in shock. I remember saying to God that that wasn't right. The applauds should be so much louder when someone is save then when someone wants to join a church.

When ever I'm asked to pray for anything at church I also pray before that God will lead me to say what He wants me to say and everytime I'm lead to say Father let us not sit and bask in your glory forgetting our brothers and sisters left in darkness. I don't know maybe I just don't get it.

God bless you

Jacqueline

hey Jac blessings, i just happened to stray onto this subject and was ncredbly saddened to read your story, let me explain why and you can judge for yourself whether its for you or not. 15 years ago i was saved from drugs, pornography and much more, today i run 3 churches am an Apostle, operate in all 9 gifts of the Spirit and see more people saved, healed and delivered than i ever thought i would, big change huh, and were going harder than ever too more churches and more miracles. the reason i said this is so that you will appreciate what im about to say and i hope it will help you. when i got saved i got saved only because i has a supernatural encounter with God's protectve power and i m alive because of it. i ddnt understand this christianity thing but was respectful, 2 months after salvation i heard all these people in a little meeting i was at with 5 people n someones house praying in what they called tongues, id heard it before wasnt against it just didint know, but thought cool i want it, anyways long story short, that nght as i broke hands from prayer sat down and sad quietly to God i want it i had another encounter with God but very powerful from within me, after that meeting the bible became alive, my sins were less powerful i was radically set on fire thats the only way i can explan it, but what i wasnt ready for was all the stuff that i didnt understand, i started seeing things all the time, shadows, creatures on people, n their eyes, as if someone was behind their eyes lookng at me, if i focused on them would begin to know things about them, i thought i was insane, i could not stop what was happeneng, worse yet, the things i saw and heard began to happen, a leader would have a moral fall and could say knew that about him or her. i can go on and on about these things nut would rather say this, today i understand these things, 1 is discerning of spirts and the other the word of wisdom and wthe word of knowledge, why? so that i can help these people before they fall! today i have new christians who have dreams like yourself, yes some are flakky and some are the result of too much pizza, but most are real! i dont have a lot of dreams, God speaks to me other ways but dont then disqualify others who do, because its in the bible. i am a minister to ministers today, i am not a small fry so to speak i come qualified to speak and would normally not be on a chat site like this because of time, yet here i am and this is my story, hope t helps, today the greatest demon we fight is the spirit of religion, the greatest attacks against us are from the supposed church and the comments you posted i have had at me as a young growing christian as well as our people, the reason your minister said these things is because he is affected by them and the devil is trying to tear t from you, oh my dear i have so much to tell you im reminded of the tears of not understanding that i went through and the many that now grow under our wngs, the hundreds and thousands that were torn apaprt by ministers at bible colleges talking them out of the passion giftins and fire the holy ghost had placed wthin them. i will end with this: i read your dream, i dont know about your others or your character for that i cannot speak, but your dream was from God almighty and you have something special on your life, never ever compromse it, fnd a church where they teach this stuff, where you can see the minister himself or herself operate in thepower come under the shadow of their wng and grow, let out what God has put in ya bless you Apostle Dorian Ballard. www.mcc777.com.au

respectfully, i dont think i have the right to think! i follow the Bible and the Word is clear, gifts dont cease until Jesus (that which is perfect) has come. it also states that knowledge will cease, so you cant take one without the other, noone states knoweldge has ceased do they, why not thats not good hermenutics. get on fire and do what Jesus did, John 14 :12 greater works, that was his passion my friend, He said 'because i go the Father', let the Word do the thinkng for you and follow t its life changing. regards Apostle Dorian.
