Is Christmas really Christian?

I found it interesting. Can anyone tell me anything else about this?

I can explain it.

The Bible says:

There was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

(Luke 1:5)

The course of Abiyah is found in here;

Now these are the divisions of the sons of Aaron. The sons of Aaron; Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. But Nadab and Abihu died before their father, and had no children: therefore Eleazar and Ithamar executed the priest's office. And David distributed them, both Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their offices in their service. And there were more chief men found of the sons of Eleazar than of the sons of Ithamar; and thus were they divided. Among the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen chief men of the house of their fathers, and eight among the sons of Ithamar according to the house of their fathers. Thus were they divided by lot, one sort with another; for the governors of the sanctuary, and governors of the house of God, were of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar. And Shemaiah the son of Nethaneel the scribe, one of the Levites, wrote them before the king, and the princes, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and before the chief of the fathers of the priests and Levites: one principal household being taken for Eleazar, and one taken for Ithamar. Now the first lot came forth to Jehoiarib, the second to Jedaiah, The third to Harim, the fourth to Seorim, The fifth to Malchijah, the sixth to Mijamin, The seventh to Hakkoz, the eighth to Abijah, (1 Chronicles 24:1-10)

There were 24 courses total. Each course was served for weeks out of year and then at Yom Kippur all courses served at the same time.

Abijah was the 8th course, which means the Angel appeared to Zachariah at 9 weeks after the 1st Sabbath in the month of Aviv/Nisan which is the month of the Passover. This means it was around the festival of Weeks (Pentacost) when the angel appeared to Him.

Now we know that at the end of his course, Zachariah went home and Elizabether immediately conceived. (Luke 1:24) This means that Elizabeth conceived during the month that would corresond to late May/early June (Hebrew months overlap ours).

Mary conceives six months later in Kislev (our December) Nine months later in Jesus is born in the Fall, around late September during the festival Sukkot.

These are approximations due to the fact that each month is 30 days on the Jewish calendar, and you have to account for leap years every 4th 7th and 11th years.

I'm not suprised of the responses that I received.

Luke 6:45 "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh."

Hebrews 4:12 "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart."

Matthew 15:8-9 "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."

<snip>

Scripture tells us plainly: Proverbs 16:25 "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

And we're not surprised at your reactions, either.

Prov. 26:12 - Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him.

See, this game can be played both ways. Do you honestly believe you can speak to the heart of the people this way?

If you have a point to make, then discuss the point. Don't act all haughty about it . . . which you are.

And if you believe such speech will sway people, then you are deceived.

Can anyone tell me anything else about this?

I've heard this before too, and I believe it makes sense.

**Thanks Shiloh for the explanation!**

I keep praying to be able to be with a group that celebrates the Feasts of the Lord.

Oh.....Have we started the Christmas bashing early this year?

Gee, and here I was wondering when the "Christmas is an evil holiday concocted by the dastardly Catholics in order to control the souls of every human being on the earth" theme would rear it's ugly head....... :b:

Oh yes....How E-E-E-E-EVILLLL this time of year is....

All that Jesus worship and the giving of gifts to the people we love the most.....

Truly evil.

Oh did it? I thought that we had just recovered from "Easter is evil" and were starting to get into "Halloween is evil."

How come we've never talked about "Thanksgiving is evil" and, "Birthdays are evil"?

I think the Christian based festivities are what they are...Christians celebrate aspects of Jesus in them, secular people talk about meaningful things such as the Easter Bunny, and Father Christmas. It would be good if we were able to celebrate the proper Jewish festivals (also there are loads of them :) )

Halloween is different...and I know we've gone past all that once again :) but here in the UK I have watched as commercialism has gradually embraced this festival to promote anything ghoulish and so-called scary...it is pretty horrible really...celebrating ghosts, witches, the undead, Satan, monsters etc...what message this injects into young lives is open to debate, evil is spoken of as good on the lips of children who become adults...common sense, let alone the Holy Ghost should make us distance ourselves from even the smell of this festival on our clothes....nuff said.
