  1. Sorry if I missed something. I try to keep my average number of posts at one per day so I have to take long breaks every now and then. I never seem to quite make it though. It has been several years since I read
  2. It is not another day yet but I can wait till tomorrow. I don't think I have heard any evidence to that effect. About the 69 weeks though, they have a specific beginning and end that is given. "From the going forth of the command .... To the Messiah the Prince" That was from Nehemiah 2 until the Triumphant entry when the Messiah was presented to the Nation of Israel for the first time. After years of Jesus' repeatedly concealing His identity from the masses, on this day He was willing that the rocks would cry out if the multitude was silent. Hosanna in Mat 21:9 is a Messianic title from Psalm 118:24-26. There is a book, "The Coming Prince" by Sir Robert Anderson that defines these dates and does the math to show these events mark the exact beginning and end of the 69 weeks. Since the conclusion of the 70th week will "finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy." It is pretty plain that that has not happened yet.
  3. Here is a source of persecution you don't hear much about these days. Persecution of Evangelicals Persists in Chiapas, Mexico In Los Pozos, Huixtlan municipality, local authorities have threatened evangelicals with expulsion, according to Notimex, a secular news agency. On Thursday, March 3, evangelicals Pedro Gomez Mendez y Emilio Pech Aguilar told the news agency that they were warned,
  4. There is a story I heard about a veteran missionary that was having considerable success working among very primitive people who was visited by someone not too experienced in that type of work. The question was asked to the missionary,
  5. So the moral of the story is "Don't watch TV"? Just what is it you are saying we are to with God's plan of Salvation? Something like this? Two Christians assaulted while sharing Biblical Message about Homosexuality Press Release from Wisconsin Christians United Two Christians were assaulted on a busy street corner in Burlington, Wisconsin while holding signs which read, "Homosexuality is sin," and "Christ can set you free." Jam 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? Jam 2:15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, Jam 2:16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? Jam 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. Jam 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Jam 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. Jam 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? Jam 2:21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Jam 2:22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect? Jam 2:23 And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God. Jam 2:24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
  6. There was a Wycliffe Bible Translator presentation at church yesterday. "Da Jesus Book" has been on the Hawaiian best seller list since it's introduction four years ago. >> John 3:16: God wen get so plenny love an aloha for da peopo inside da world, dat he wen send me, his one an ony Boy, so dat everybody dat trus me no get cut off from God, but get da real kine life dat stay to da max foeva. You know, God neva send me, his Boy, inside da world for punish da peopo. He wen send me fo take da peopo outqa da bad kine stuff dey doing."
  7. That is a good answer Botz. I do admire you. I agree one hundred percent that where the concept of tithing is implemented in a church it should be called something else. When a specific level of giving is mandatory in order for a person to remain in good standing in a fellowship (as it is in the Assemblies of God, for example) it should be called something else, like
  8. Someone has pointed out that all these problems can not be attributed to PDL alone and that is true. Certainly there are other things going on as well and there is no way I can communicate everything here. I don
  9. Another one of his mentors not mentioned yet is Peter Drucker. I also find this interview with Larry King interesting. Nov.22, 2004 Larry King Live interviewed Pastor Rick Warren of Saddleback church.
  10. Thanks Shelby and everyone else. The pastor did say he would discuss everything with her father and she said she is thinking about asking him to do that. One of the biggest aspects of the purpose driven approach to church growth is to remove every obstacle that keeps people from coming to church. Rick Warren says he actually did door to door surveys as marketing research. The church has to become as much like the world as it needs to to attrack people. One of the biggest objections people have about church is all the negative things about sin and eternal punishment etc. People who have a strong sense of "right and wrong" find themselves marginalized. And BTW -- The last time the pastor spoke with my wife on the phone he told her as aside that she was done playing the guitar also. "Her rhythm was off". The person who was dropped from the music progam was an extremely talented keyboardist with a top of the line machine. Teaching music is her profession. She was replaced with a little box that the song leader is supposed to be able to produce the music with.
  11. Thanks everyone for your advice and concern. We have been waiting on the Lord to sort things out. A close friend of ours has been revising the constitution at the pastor
  12. The evidence against evolution is staggering. "Irreducible Complexity" is every where. As are symbiotic relationships which prove individual species could not have evolved independently over time. There is no way they could exist at all, unless they were created at the same time. Yet, the facts are ignored. One evolutionist put it this way.
  13. Most of the membership is newer people that would most likely not care. Very few people last more than 3 or 4 years in that church.
  14. Yes, thank you, I had seen that and printed it out for her to read last night. Up until now she had thought I was crazy everytime I spoke out against rick warren's stuff. Not any more.
  15. I advised her to publish this information through out the church membership and try to force the the pastor to publicly disclose why he is taking this action. If enough of them were willing go come to her defense, it might change a lot of things. Joh 3:19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. Joh 3:20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. Joh 3:21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
  16. My wife has received a letter from the pastor of our church that is a follow-up of a phone conversation requesting that she meet with him and two council members in regards to
  17. One way to answer that question is if we start doing the four things listed in 2 Chronicles 7:14. The context of this verse is several chapters. It is too often glibly quoted but not serioulsy looked at. Repent of our lack of humility. Even a very brief study on the topic of humility and ways to humble our selves is revealing. Our prayerlessness.
  18. The hurricanes and other catastrophes are often judgments from God but Jesus is saying it is not always because they are worse than sinners than the rest of the population. Their judgment is also a warning for everyone else. We can not look at what is happening in Florida this year or in other years when they had major fires and think that other parts of the country are less deserving of the same treatment.
  19. Luk 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. Luk 13:2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? Luk 13:3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luk 13:4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? Luk 13:5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
  20. The GOOD NEWS is: Joh 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. That Jesus Christ is come in the flesh and boldly proclaimed to all who would listen that: Luk 4:18-19 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. The good news is what has been delivered to all the churches of Jesus Christ as procalimed by the Apostle Paul: 1Co 15:3 For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 1Co 15:4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures: 1Co 15:5 And that he was seen of Cephas, then of the twelve: 1Co 15:6 After that, he was seen of above five hundred brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present, but some are fallen asleep. 1Co 15:7 After that, he was seen of James; then of all the apostles. 1Co 15:8 And last of all he was seen of me also, as of one born out of due time.
  21. I have one. It is the full Bible. It came as a bonus from K-house.org. It isn't a bible I would buy for myself. Too many pictures (one is too many). It might be good for a teenager or a seeker. Some of the graphics in it are similar to the Good News Bible, but there are a lot of full page art reproductions like the one of the Tower of Babel too. There are some good quotes from well know men and women but I don't feel they merit being inserted into God's Word. On page 1370 (John 11, the resurection of Lazarus) is a side bar I don't think would be particularly useful for the general reader any more than it fits the context of the passage. Ten points (mostly one liners) on how to preach at a funeral of some one you suspect died unsaved. There is a long 4 page article on Islam inserted into Genesis 21. All that stuff really cuts into your time spent in serious reading of God's Word. It amounts to little more than just another distraction. No center column references, no maps, no concordance. Many key verses are printed in bold text. I think a BIBLE that needs all those endorsements to sell it, would not be much good. Besides the ones on the box, there are ten more on the first two pages. The Bible is kind of a
  22. Zec 11:17 Woe to the idol shepherd that leaveth the flock! the sword shall be upon his arm, and upon his right eye: his arm shall be clean dried up, and his right eye shall be utterly darkened. Mat 5:29 And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.
  23. It has happened to me numerous times - before and after becoming a Christian. It can not be a warning in my case because I never know it is going to happen until after it has. It can serve no purpose at all, that I have figured out, except to show that dreams are weird. I sure hope the one about the bear never happens. :oww: :oww: :oww:
  24. How could it be the thief on the cross? Surely Abraham and Job and David and many many other OT saints were saved weren't they? What about John the Baptist? Were they saved in the exact same way or sense you and I are or is there a difference? All these died in faith, not having recieved the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth. Hebrews 11:13 But now hath HE obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also He is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises. Hebrews 8:6 According as His divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and Godliness, through the knowledge of Him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us excedding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having excaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:3-4
