    The Trinity

There are other persons involved. Just one spirit. IN CHRIST JESUS   Then what "persons" are they, the Father and the Son, separate persons?

  3. There were couches in the Garden of Eden? Com-on, they were innocent. This was before all that.
  4. That is a good answer BigJer. Does it explain his motive though? That the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise -- with no regard for the consequence "in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die"?
  5. Adam received the command concerning the tree before Eve was made. He ate the fruit from her hand in order to share her fate, whatever that was going to be, because he loved her. See Revelation Ch. 5. Is it possible that that book is in someone else's hand who is also sitting on the throne with the father? I think the fruit was more of what we consider a book than it was food.

    The Trinity

If Jesus and the Father are one in the same as the Holy Spirit, then to whom did Jesus offer Himself? Who accepted, that is deemed the offering acceptable for the atonement for sin, His offering? Is it not impossible - for the offering, and the one to whom the offering is given - to be the same being? If it is not impossible, it certainly would be a sham. Heb 9:14 How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
  7. How about Commander and Chief. A role model that is desperatly needed today. Jos 5:13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? Jos 5:14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? Jos 5:15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

I would suggest you get a book called The Problem of Pain by CS Lewis. He has some very good answers for 'deep thinkers' about why God created us the way He did and why the world is the way it is. And welcome to Worthy Boards.
  12. There are two princes in this passage, "the Messiah the Prince" and "the people of the prince that shall come". The first is Jesus of course. The second is Titus. His father had become Caesar during the siege of Jerusalem, thus making Titus a prince. But it wasn't Titus that destroyed the temple. His orders were to save the temple, but when they finally broke the Jewish resistance, and the Jews fought so hard the army torched the temple melting the gold which ran into the cracks of the floor thus making it necessary to un-build it stone by stone to recover the gold. This article tells the story. The Destruction of the Second Temple The gold was later used by Titus's father to build the famous Roman coliseum in which thousands of Christians died. They recently discovered a plaque stating this. How true it is for much of the world today that prefers sports to serving God. 'Generation' does have a broader meaning than just 40 years, but I am little uncertain about that too. I was never too fond of Hal Lindsey, but Chuck Missler does teach the same doctrine. It's just personality I guess. From my study this is the best solution, that the 70th week is yet future and the church will be gone before it begins.
  13. I can't explain it in much more detail than I have, but I will try to give a little more. There is so much, shall I say- lack of agreement on these things that one must pick their way through it rather cautiously. Where I really got started on this was from Chuck Missler. To understand the 70 7's I guess you start in Leviticus 25:1-6. From the time they crossed into in land, they were to keep a Sabbath year as well as a Sabbath week. They never did that. God let it 'slide' for 490 years or till they had missed 70 Sabbath years. The land had 70 years of rest coming and God sent Israel into captivity to fulfill the period. 2Ch 36:21 Daniel was taken as a youth to Babylon. In his later years, he knew, from reading the book of Jeremiah, that the time to return was getting close. Dan 9:2 I have heard several people say that this message he received is the key prophesy to understanding all the end time events. If you get this one wrong, you probably be wrong in the rest of your eschatology and ecclesiology (BTW). In the message from the angel (v. 24-27) he is told "seventy sevens" are determined for your people. They are broken up into parts: seven weeks, then 62 more weeks, and one remaining week. The first period covers the rebuilding the city, 49 years. Then 62 weeks, 434 years till the "Messiah be cut off", that is killed but not for Himself. (These are 360 day years because that is how long a year was at that time.) Then the city and the sanctuary would be destroyed for the second time. Then it mentions a covenant that lasts one week, 7 years, 2520 days which is again divided into two 1260 day periods, but the second period will be shortened (Mat 24:22, Mar 13:20. This is final week, is believed to be still future because there has been no covenant and no abomination etc. as yet since the temple was destroyed. I hope that helps. Did you ask if they keep this Sabbath year now? What I was told is that when the Sabbath year comes they lease their land to a non-Jew and thus make the law of no effect.
  14. If you don't listen Chuck Missler, you might have got here. I have posted it a time or two.
  15. You can look at Leviticus 25 to get this information. It was not a new teaching or something recent. The seventy years in Babylon were because they had not kept the seven year sabbaths for 490 years (7x70). (2 Chronicles 36:21) This was the subject of Daniels prayer of chapter 9. When would the 70 years end? Not the day He started His ministry, but the triumphant entry. A very good reference on this is The Coming Prince by Sir Robert Anderson. I would say this was not specifically given in the NT because God does not keep the calendar and therefore it is not infallible. However if you you consider Simeon in Luke ch. 2, you might gather that this was partially the source of his revelation concerning the coming of Jesus. Like Daniel, he had read the book, counted the years and knew he would be that close. The Holy Spirit then assured him he would see the child before he died. God is a rewarder of those who diligenty seek Him. Also consider that Jesus did make reference to this prophesy in Luke 19:42: Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. Then he told of the destruction of the city because they had failed to know the prophesy and count the days and know it was Him. The day of the triumphant entry was the 173,880th day. (7x69x360) Psalm 118:24 speaks of this day. Because the crowd quoted from this psalm the Pharisees told Jesus to rebuke his disciples becasue they were in fact proclaiming Him to be the Messiah. But Jesus said if these should hold their peace, the stones would immediately cry out. That is correct.
  16. I have heard that from Chuck Missler. He has used it for several years and included it in several messages and books. I tried looking up the names some time ago but it is difficult for some and you won't get those meanings from Strongs. I think Adam, Seth and Noah are quite certain, they are in the text. Mahalalel, Enoch and Lamech are reasonably certain. Methuselah has to be at least part right by definition (meth=death), but that is also based on the theory that Enoch had a prophesy concerning the timing of the flood in relation to his death which did coincide with it in the same year. I can't say about the others. It's pretty neat though.
  17. So if a group four people are in a discussion with one in a long monologue, another person comes in; and asks one of the listeners whom he knows saying "who is this that darkeneth counsel?" he is refering to the person he is talking to, not the person speaking? This was the first of three references I listed. Did Job go in the company of wicked men? Did Job say what Elihu charges him with saying? Yes, but it is taken out of context. (27:10) Is Elihu lying? Job 34:7 What man is like Job, who drinketh up scorning like water? Job 34:8 Which goeth in company with the workers of iniquity, and walketh with wicked men. Job 34:9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing that he should delight himself with God. From this point on through the next several verses he is saying God has to punish Job in this way or he would be perverting judgment. Where did Job do that? What he said was: Job 9:20 If I justify myself, mine own mouth shall condemn me: if I say, I am perfect, it shall also prove me perverse. Is this Elihu's expression of the "true love of Jesus Christ toward Job? Job 34:36 My desire is that Job may be tried unto the end because of his answers for wicked men. Job 34:37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin, he clappeth his hands among us, and multiplieth his words against God. OR from the Jerusalem Bible: Job 34:36 Put him unsparingly to the proof since his retorts are the same as those that the wicked make. Also see the NIV or the Amplified if you like. This verse sounds to me like he is saying Job is all but unredeeemable because he is about the highest ranking sinner there is: Job 36:16 Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table should be full of fatness. Job 36:17 But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee. Job 36:18 Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee. Thanks for your answers.

  20. A lot of good information here, including a message board. Ephesians 5-11 Have nothing to do with the evil deeds of darkness, but rather expose them.
  21. Joh 3:1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: Joh 3:2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. Joh 3:3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 'Born again' is not just a label. It is a genuine experience one must have with our creator if one is to become a part of his eternal kingdom. We are all born into this world as descendants from Adam and Eve. They sinned and we, by the very human nature we derive from them, perpetuate their sin and it becomes our sin. The words of our creator to Adam were: Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. Adam did not physically die that day though. He lived more than 900 years longer. What did happen was that he was no longer in direct fellowship with the HOLY GOD that created him. He was removed from the Garden of Eden. Jesus Christ came into the world to restore the relationship that Adam lost. It doesn
