  1. Bazz, I have read on here for years and more recently joined. I have seen this discussion multiple times. Personally, I think there is blessing in recognizing and celebrating the 'Feasts of the Lord' which are also called the Jewish Feasts. I believe it is those days that Paul is referring to...
  2. God is able (and will) reconcile all things that is His will. I was speaking more of relationships between people. Even after you forgive someone that does not mean your relationship should necessarily try to be restored. Some people you have to keep your distance, even if you care for them. Sad but true.
  3. forgiveness can happen apart from reconciliation. Sometimes that is sad but sometimes it is better so. I heard a minister say at one time that its not true forgiveness if it does not include reconciliation but I cannot agree with that.
  4. Enjoyed this posting because I have been doing a study, or basically re-reading the book "Trusting God" by Jerry Bridges. One chapter in the book is about weather and natural disasters. If I am understanding the author correctly he thinks that God is the author of all weather both what we consider good and what is considered harmful. LIkewise things such as earthquakes and so forth. The author gives multiple scripture references to the effect that God is the author of weather. Will list some of them below. He believes that to think God set the natural laws in order and then backed away and lets it do whatever those laws lead to...is a form of Deism. Rather he believes that God holds all things together and actively works in his creation even causing weather, which is mostly beneficial but can sometimes be harmful or even disastrous. As in the post above, I know we live in a fallen world and I had thought the harmful weather patters such as drought and tornadoes were due to that. On the other hand I can't think of any particular scripture that gives Satan credit for any weather problems or even natural disasters. Just wondering about this subject.... Job: 37 3-13 3 He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth. 4 After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard. 5 God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend. 6 For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength. 7 He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work. 8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places. 9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north. 10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened. 11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud: 12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth. 13 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy. Psalms 147:8, 16-18 8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains. 16 He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes. 17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold? 18 He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow. Jeremiah 10:13 13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures. Amos 4:7 7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered. All these scriptures attribute all weather, both good and bad, directly to God.
  5. Those on food stamps are the ones using the food banks. There are also those who are close to the line that seek services, but most who use the services are already receiving food stamps. One Light, I did realize that quite a few folk are likely trying for all options to feed their family, but I assume that some need that extra help from a food bank that would keep them from having to apply for public assistance of food stamps. Losing that food bank support could push them into applying. My understanding is that there are quotas and rewards for signing up new people (which I think is just wrong). I have some experience of that since years ago my own family with 3 preschool age children were just barely getting by. We were eligible for food stamps for several years with low paying jobs that just wasn't quite enough to get by. We never applied for the food stamps because people gave us fresh veggies from their garden, blessed us with food from the church food pantry and otherwise assisted us for about two years while we got on our feet. I definitely would have applied for food stamps if need be to feed my children but, thanks to a helping hand from neighbors with a garden and our local church, we never had to. But I get your point that likely the food banks are mostly used by people already on food stamps.
  6. About the lack of USDA supplies being delivered....there may be logical reasons but I am a bit suspicious. What if the government is cutting back on food bank assistance in order to force more people onto food stamps? they are actually advertising for people to sign up, I have heard the ads on my local radio stations. If you can't get some help from the food bank you might be more likely to apply for food stamps if you are having trouble getting enough food as well as paying your house/rent and lights.
  7. great pictures! I keep wanting to do this and just haven't pulled it together yet.
  8. Agree that letters can be so special. Only thing is, I have some I am not sure what to do with. My parents married at age 17 and 18 shortly before my dad went off to basic training and then overseas for WW II. He was basically gone for about 3 years. During that time she was getting letters from him of course. She kept them all these years and at one point when I asked if I could read them she told me she preferred that no one else read them and would throw them away before she died. Well, she passed away in '91. I was cleaning the house for my dad and found the letters in the back of her closet. In a cute little box tied up with ribbons. I gave them to my dad telling him what she had said to me about not wanting anyone else to read them. I assumed he would dispose of them. Nine years later, after he died and I was going through his stuff---there they were. So I asked my sister and two brothers what should we do?? I hate to throw out something my mom found so precious as to keep for all those years...yet none of us feel free to read them. Its funny really. Now I'm thinking "I'll get rid of these before I die..."
  9. I really enjoy Davidic worship too. A while back I heard someone (on tv I think) talking about this. He mentioned that during the time when the house of the Lord was still at Shiloh, and before the temple was built in Jerusalem, David had set up the tabernacle of David in Jerusalem. At that tabernacle they had 24 hour a day praise and worship going on. I had wondered in the past why David had written that he would like to be a doorkeeper in the house of the Lord, and that he would like to be like a bird who made it home in the house of the Lord. I was thinking of the traditional place where the ark was with the Holy of Holies, the outer court etc...and I couldn't help but wonder WHY he wanted to be there. He couldn't go into the Holy of Holies. But it made more sense when this man was saying that David was speaking of joining in the praise at the Tabernacle! ! Then later when Solomon built the temple they had singers and musicians etc... not sure if they had 24 hour a day praise and worship at the Temple.
  10. Wiki has him listed and what his released albums or works are but I'm not sure what his first single hit was. I like his very distinctive voice.
