Enjoyed this posting because I have been doing a study, or basically re-reading the book "Trusting God" by Jerry Bridges. One chapter in the book is about weather and natural disasters. If I am understanding the author correctly he thinks that God is the author of all weather both what we consider good and what is considered harmful. LIkewise things such as earthquakes and so forth. The author gives multiple scripture references to the effect that God is the author of weather. Will list some of them below. He believes that to think God set the natural laws in order and then backed away and lets it do whatever those laws lead to...is a form of Deism. Rather he believes that God holds all things together and actively works in his creation even causing weather, which is mostly beneficial but can sometimes be harmful or even disastrous.
As in the post above, I know we live in a fallen world and I had thought the harmful weather patters such as drought and tornadoes were due to that. On the other hand I can't think of any particular scripture that gives Satan credit for any weather problems or even natural disasters. Just wondering about this subject....
Job: 37 3-13
3 He directeth it under the whole heaven, and his lightning unto the ends of the earth.
4 After it a voice roareth: he thundereth with the voice of his excellency; and he will not stay them when his voice is heard.
5 God thundereth marvellously with his voice; great things doeth he, which we cannot comprehend.
6 For he saith to the snow, Be thou on the earth; likewise to the small rain, and to the great rain of his strength.
7 He sealeth up the hand of every man; that all men may know his work.
8 Then the beasts go into dens, and remain in their places.
9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.
10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.
11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:
12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.
13 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.
Psalms 147:8, 16-18
8 Who covereth the heaven with clouds, who prepareth rain for the earth, who maketh grass to grow upon the mountains.
16 He giveth snow like wool: he scattereth the hoarfrost like ashes.
17 He casteth forth his ice like morsels: who can stand before his cold?
18 He sendeth out his word, and melteth them: he causeth his wind to blow, and the waters flow.
Jeremiah 10:13
13 When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
Amos 4:7
7 And also I have withholden the rain from you, when there were yet three months to the harvest: and I caused it to rain upon one city, and caused it not to rain upon another city: one piece was rained upon, and the piece whereupon it rained not withered.
All these scriptures attribute all weather, both good and bad, directly to God.
