  1. Explain first to him why you don't want to watch the show. Does it include blasphemy? Lust? Anything which is sinful and not God-honouring (especially blasphemy in a movie or TV show, I would switch it off or leave the room immediately) Explain that it's not God-honouring to watch these shows because they are things which God hates. Then he'll know your reasons and if it's God's will, he will be convicted of these things too.
  2. Of course; we look forward to eternal life. You can have that too, C.C. Amen MG!
  3. Lamentations 3 Lam 3:21 But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: Lam 3:22 The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; Lam 3:23 they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lam 3:24 "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "therefore I will hope in him." Each morning God's mercies are new. Each morning is a new day - So yes we look forward to life, to live in God's wonderful promises. That God always by His mercy gets us through as Christians.
  4. As it's down the bottom of all my posts, it's also a very important passage for me! God's power is shown most perfectly in our weakness; in Paul's weakness and in our weakness now. When we are least able to do anything, that is when God's work is seen as most amazing and He is given the most honour and glory! You can spend weeks studying just that one passage and the context.... And it's a good idea to start somewhere! I find it so encouraging, especially "My grace is sufficient for you". So it is my hope, as I am extremely weak, in almost every way, that i will be a vessel for God to show His power through I pray that he will continue to do so. Thanks for sharing!
  5. Thanks for that Fez! I like RC Sproul, am reading a book of his at the moment - "the invisible hand" I think it is.. Very good!
  6. I have called out to god in the past and have not been answered. Of course that may change in the future. You are right about the muslim religion. It is far more restrictive on people's rights . One thing i must clear up. I would love it if i believed that god created everything and there is eternal life afterwards. Only an idiot would think otherwise. It's just i haven't seen any evidence or felt the presence of a supreme being. If that changes i would be the first to sing his praises. Also the teachings of Jesus i totally agree with. Cool dude who (if he existed) brought pacifism to a new level. Religion on the other hand has taken his message and used it to control humanity for hundreds of years. I think you are confusing Christianity with some man-made religion... You don't get "eternal life afterwards" for believing that God created everything... The reason that people do not come to God is because people love their sin. God calls for repentance and faith in Jesus Christ - but why would people want to do that when they can live life their own way here and now, pull their sheets over thier head and pretend that they can't see the wonders of God's creation, so they don't have to bow to Him. I do understand that some people find it hard with the media promoting evolution each day. We have come to know the Earth as a fragile place that came about by pure chance and millions of miracles in themselves of evolution. And about Jesus... Come on there is really no question of whether He was here or not...
  7. All other religions seek to gain their version of 'heaven' by good works. Christ teaches that we can do no good, apart from God. Every good thing we do is only by His grace. Even repentance and faith is only through His grace. We are saved by grace ALONE and not by our own good works. And I am sure, if you look into it, plenty of people do not have beliefs based on where they were born. For instance, I was born into the house of an atheist mother. I live alone with her. Our very consciences tell us that suicide bombings are wrong. When we look at the newborn child, we see precious new life. As Joe said, you can see creation but still don't give the glory to God, therefore sin remains on you, unless you repent.
  8. He has committed idolatry by making a God to suit himself and his own views. This is post modernism "It's true to me" and unfortunately for him, his God does not exist. If you take him through the law (like the 10 commandments) he should realise that he is sinner, and by the true God's standards, he deserves hell. At the commandment not to commit adultary remember: "
  9. Were you there when god made the earth. Were you there when he made the universe. I already know the answers to these question are no so why do you bother asking them. Also, there is also plenty of evidence for evolution. There are millions of people who are willing to die for allah or krishna or whoever. You say there is no evidence for evolution and i say there is no evidence for god. See the circle we're going round in. Unless of course you do have some evidence for god. "
  10. No, Christopher. Those are 25 references to nice little fables about how the human eye could have possibly maybe sorta kinda evolved. Not one shred of proof is offered for the evolution of the eye. It is all conjecture and speculation. Exactly! How exactly did you track the evolution of the human eye? Were you there millions of years ago when it wasn't so 'evolved'? Were your friends or parents? Or did you have computers tracking it millions of years ago? You have no way to prove evolution because there is NO evidence. Yet you claim (I am guessing) that Jesus is not God. We have written records, and his friends and thousands more over the next 2000 years were willing to die for Him becuase they believed He was God. Because they saw His miracles, they saw the prophesies fulfilled, and furthermore, they were sinners and needed a Saviour. As do we all.
  11. Yes he was a church-goer, not a Christian though. Church attendance was the proper thing to do at the time. He had an upbringing of evolutionary teachings. It was all very sad...
  12. Dawkins was on O'Reilly's show? Well, I would have watched that one for sure....had I known about it. Its on Youtube. But I do warn you, O'Reilly gets owned. He's an idiot so its not that surprising. And I say he's an idiot because of a lot of things, not because of his religious affiliation. Bill O'Reilly is a very intelligent man, from what I can see (although I'm not a huge fan of his). Maybe I will watch that clip to see what you're talking about. *doh!* No he's not. He's a bigot and a racist and above all, an idiot. Not only that, he lies and manipulates and cuts off the feed to his guests' microphones when they're destroying him in a debate (or when he just doesn't agree with them). Seriously, separate your political views from your religious beliefs for one second. Bill O'Reilly is not someone you want to have on your side. He brings everyone down. I wouldn't call it a debate, well not over evolution (which this thread is supposed to be about I think) as O'Reilly believes in evolution. You really need 2 sides for a debate... Careful who you call names CC as they may just be on your side...
  13. The human eye? Christopher, what makes it even more incredible is the fact that our brains interpret the messages we get from our eyes to make it the right way around! So you think people were seeing everything backwards for millions of years until they evolved?? Someone by chance could see the right way round so all the backward seeing people just died?
  14. When you say that you are a good Catholic girl, what exactly do you mean? Psalm 53:2-3 God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one."
  15. I bought the book "Battling Unbelief" By John Piper becuase I also struggle with these things, I found it really helpful!! If you can't buy the book, you should be able to listen to these sermons online at http://www.archive.org/details/BattlingUnbelief Keep strong in Christ
  16. Well I reaaaally like Fireproof Heard good things about Facing the Giants but can't afford it at the moment Flywheel is good but done on a really cheap budget. Because I can't read for long I love watching movies, but these days I lean more towards sermon-type dvd's and Christian debates. Gets the brain going, but unfortunately isn't so relaxing as a movie, and doesn't go so well with popcorn and chocolate! John Macarthur does some great sermon-type dvds if you are interested. Also I'd recommend about anything by John Piper Hope you find some good ones!
  17. No I'm in Sydney! Your original question was at 4:37pm here on Sunday
  18. This may be too much... I don't know... But it is something to consider if you really want God to have complete control of your life... By John Piper "If someone committed a crime before becoming a believer and got away with it, should they turn themselves in? Yes. This is really front burner. I'll give you an illustration, and I'll try not to give too many details. A man came to me in church a year ago, after the service, and said that he had done arson. He had set something on fire and destroyed a building, intentionally. (Nine years ago, maybe?) And he asked me this question: "I'm feeling really bad about this. Should I go and tell the police?" And I said, "Yeah, you should. And let me pray with you that they would have mercy upon you, because it could be a lot of time in jail. I don't know how much damage was done, or whether people were hurt." But that was my answer. And it's a great opportunity for trusting God. Now he just came back to the church a few weeks ago and told me he had done it. He had done it. And they were blown away, like, "Now what do we do? We don't know what to do with this." They had not arrested him. They said, "We're doing to do more investigation," and so on. And things were still in process. He just wanted to thank me. He said, "I feel like I've done the right thing. My conscience is clear. I don't know what is going to come of it entirely, but I had to get that off of my shoulders." So, yeah, I would say, Yes. And that's not uncommon. The more practical thing is small things. I have known a young man
  19. I know.. Australians are becoming so clueless when it comes to world news... Conversations always revolve around local or federal government policies and football. The news stations seem to only show what they think people want to hear... Things which directly affect us in Australia or sport. It's terrible. That's why I love these forums and such, where I can actually see news instead of the 'news' on tv every night.
  20. I should just warn you that the mentors on Setting Captives free are bound to report you if you mention an addiction to child pornography specifically.
  21. Looks like we all recommend settingcaptivesfree.com ! It has great daily bible studies.
  22. Truly repent. God is powerful "And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ." Philippians 1:6 Romans 5:18 - Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died a has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness. For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
