  1. While some people wish to deny it the wealth our nation acquired by the labors of our ancestors is being spent on products from other nations because some here believe we are above doing such menial things as growing our own food or making our own toys. Our wealth is spent and now we look to our former enemies to borrow money to pay our bills and yet we have nothing left to borrow against but the land we own and soon they will begin selling it off to pay these debts.
  2. I think you miss the point all together. We, as a nation, have more going out than is coming in. Therein lies our problem. Regardless what we are spending the money on we are spending more than we make. As I heard it this morning our GDP is shrinking and we are now borrowing money at an alarming rate. How can we possibly hope to escape this debt? Interestingly the country to whom we have the largest trade deficit is also the one from whom our government has been borrowing money. I also heard this morning that our national parks are being surveyed and counted as collateral against these loans our leaders are taking. It seems this could be why Bush was trying to sell our ports. To pay off debts. Unless we as a nation begin making more than we spend we will never be out of debt. It's that simple.
  3. As I understand it they were a sect that broke off and lived in these caves carved into the cliff sides. We can only assume they were placed in the clay jars to preserve them but how they remained a secret for so long is the real mystery.
  4. Good grief. Some people have as much animus for Jews and Israel as many here have for George W. Bush.
  5. If they are legally required to show them the video then it surely couldn't hurt the cause and may actually save quite a few lives.
  6. I'm having trouble wrapping my mind around the concept of things that are "far more important" than food. I also have an issue with the whole "why produce that which we can just buy" philosophy. My question is. Buy with what? Borrowed money? Think of the deficit as a cash flow indicator. 40 billion dollars a year has been flowing to other nations that does not get spent on U.S. products, high tech or not. This is the reason our nation is in this crisis. Why fix this or do that when we can pay someone else to do it. Along come the illegals and even more U.S. jobs are scooped up by those willing to WORK for a living. Sadly it seems Americans in general feel as you do. We are too important to make our own toys so we should buy them from some less important country. I am too busy to mow my lawn or clean my pool so I'll just pay the illegal immigrant to do it. And as we have noticed, a large percentage of people in this country are in debt. Perhaps not debilitating debt, but debt non the less. Multiply that debt times the number of Americans in it then pile on the Government spending and charitable giving to other nations around the world. Our nation, like it's people, have become accustomed to living with a degree of debt never fully intending to be free from it. It's the debt that leads us to dependence. The very same dependence that causes people to endure jobs they are unhappy with just as our leaders accept trade conditions that are not completely fair but the more we borrow the more we owe as the interest compounds. (article) Americans are 'financially illiterate' Lets use the sub prime loan crisis as an example. This crisis is not totally the fault of the mortgage industry. Someone had to sign the dotted line. The same someones who wanted their dream home without FIRST having worked and saved the money to buy it. (article) Americans living beyond their means When I spend more than I make I go into debt. The same principle also applies to our nation. When we spend more than we earn we go in debt. Similarly when we produce less than we consume we go into debt. Action - reaction. We can't gloss it over with (we produce high tech stuff so we can't be bothered with growing our own food). This does not change the fact that we consume (buy) more than we make so the deficit then leads to debt then leads to dependence. Pretty simple. Our budget is not balanced. Many politicians give lip service to "balancing the budget" but as we can see that has not been a priority. With ever dollar we and our leaders spend that is not backed by a product, resource or service we sacrifice our freedom and that of our children.
  7. http://www.census.gov/indicator/www/ustrade.html The trade deficit is not imaginary and we trade with nations other than China. The trade deficit is not a number that represents specific debt but a deficiency in the amount of goods/products we sell versus those we buy. We in the U.S. buy 40 billion dollars worth of goods more than we sell to those same free trade partners. How many jobs and related expenses do you think 40 billion dollars a year would cover? That 40 billion represents the wages for jobs lost to foreign markets. This is not protectionist. If there were no deficit we could still be trading freely with these other economies and nations only we wouldn't be on the loosing end. The gap must be closed. It's not protectionism to want trade numbers to be balanced.
  8. Please tell me there is no such thing as a black student union. I don't get it. This from a "community" that wishes to overcome discrimination. Everywhere you turn there are blacks who wish to be identified by their race. They completely miss the point when they do this. If they want to be like the rest of and accepted then stop trying to force that acceptance. The Gay "community" does the same thing. They want to be accepted and fight against discrimination yet they insist on throwing that which identifies them in your face. It's not enough for them to be accepted as individuals based on their personal qualities. They have to band together to force an issue that exists primarily in their minds. Consider this scenario. A black homosexual man interviews for a job. Lets assume you give him the interview and while you like him he is not the most qualified person you have interviewed. During the interview the man reveals, without any prompting, that he is gay. You think to yourself "good for you". Even so you do not hire him because he is not the best candidate. Months later you are being sued for discrimination. Most of us here would not have made an issue about his color and his sexual orientation was not even a consideration not was it questioned. Even so the man identified with that aspect of his person and so felt it had to have been an issue that affected his being hired. What happens if a "biker" interviews for a job with you and you don't hire him because his tattoos could not be sufficiently hidden to maintain a professional appearance. Do you suppose he would feel discriminated against because he's a biker? Some people want special treatment (recognition) based on how they identify themselves but when they do not receive the kind of recognition they want suddenly it's discrimination. You can identify yourself any way you want based on race, sexuality or preference, high or age and this does not mean society will accept you by default. Ironically the more you insist on being accepted or treated a certain way the more people will resist doing so. I don't know how to explain it any plainer. I am a white heterosexual male. I don't demand I be treated any certain way and that way I am rarely disappointed. Those who demand special treatment will find they are disappointed quite often as we are free to act or react according to our own personalities. Such is life.
  9. 'Buy American' -- or Bye-Bye America by Patrick J. Buchanan I have to say I don't disagree. We are all aware of the impact of job outsourcing and dependence on foreign resources as a result of the "global" mindset. Don't get me wrong. Trade is a good thing when it enhances both respective economies but when one prospers more than the other the relationship is doomed to fail. I have been saying this all along. We need to be IN-dependent if we are to prosper as our nation once did. We were the envy of the world but along came the socialists/globalists. Products and goods were purchased on the cheap causing our own producers and manufacturers to fail as a result. And so begins the age of dependence. Long ago nations traded goods that were not available anywhere else but today goods are imported because the cost difference can make men wealthy. Worse is that our government has facilitated such dependence through laws, taxes and regulations that favored the foreign markets. We need to reclaim our independence before it's too late. Let those who have benefited the most become independent as well as we return to making the things we need and importing only luxury items that we cannot make for ourselves.
  10. I think most of us give that much or more after it's all said and done. Your taxed when you make a dollar and your taxed when you spend it. And if what you own has enough value they will tax you on the owning of it.
  11. Kudos to them for standing up for what they believe. Those on the left in the entertainment industry have been excessively vocal yet those on the right have been reluctant to share their views but more and more seem to be taking a stand. You hear the left speak out against discrimination but when the shoe is on the other foot they are just as fast to shut the door on entertainers and actors who don't share their beliefs or world view. It's about time those of us on the right start making some noise.
  12. The taxpayers are not risking it. The leaders they chose are doing so without first consulting the people. Then again the will of the people is so easily manipulated by the press why bother even trying to convince us. They just decide to save the money, for a change, and make the decisions for us.
  13. I am curious why they insist their groups be recognized by these universities. Would such recognition give them a voice louder than that of the total of their individual members? I believe their anti-discrimination rules are in themselves discriminatory. These groups should be able to set membership requirements without having them dictated by the schools. As we all have already noticed there are people who go out of their way to be offended and to force societies, or in this case groups, acceptance of them. The name of the group is somewhat vague but were it to say specifically "Christian" in it's name then non-Christians should not be wanting in that group. These days people that feel they should not be excluded, despite no desire to be part of that group seem to be trying to break these groups up for their own self edification. It's truly sad.
  14. Interesting that you should point that out. So many children born into true poverty all across Africa yet they do not wish or seek to kill those children but here where we have plenty and people ready and willing to adopt there are people lining up to rid themselves of babies who might otherwise burden them and upset the fragile balance in their tiny little worlds. It's shameful. We call them 3rd world nations because they are not as technologically advanced as the rest of the world but they at least still value life.
  15. Meanwhile chicken little is busy clucking up a storm for the press about the impending "catastrophe" if the bill doesn't get passed immediately. The way I see it. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Do it right the first time or don't bother exaggerating the bills importance. Obama is saying he inherited this problem from the previous administration. He was a senator during the last administration and so has some culpability in this despite all his "present" votes. Moreover it was his colleagues that ultimately were behind the sub-prime loan crisis that lead us to this. It's not regulations that did this and McCain told them time and time again it would come back to bite us in the end. He was right. Even so the Liberals and Mr "change" are busy blaming someone else for their own mistakes as usual. Still. I am glad they are making an attempt at reigning in this bill and cleaning out the trash and earmarks that do nothing to create jobs or stimulate growth.
  16. A giant laser to fuse two atoms together. Doesn't sound very efficient to me.
  17. I hear ya. It's not enough that our "leaders" in the U.S. want to publicly fund abortions but many on the left, like our president, would like to fund abortions around the world with our tax dollars in spite of our national debt. So while we stifle population growth through abortions the left is working to relax immigration controls to make it easier for immigrants to fill the void. It seems they are self destructive and wanting to take us with them. This plays in with the "prince of peace" actually wanting the destruction of the world. They advocate unity and one world concepts but ultimately they will never be satisfied with who they are or what they have because they reject the one who can bring them lasting peace of mind and happiness.
  18. And that other one. I can't think of his name. Rev Phleger?
  19. I'm curious. Don't they often depict black holes as having rotation at the even horizon? What do you suppose is the determining factor in the direction it rotates? I am reminded of how Hurricanes and Typhoons differ only in the direction they rotate. Could it be that the black holes are affected be similar forces on a much grander scale?
  20. I believe the current theory is that all galaxies have a black hole at their heart. Metaphorically speaking, it would seem the whole universe is circling the drain.
  21. I'd like to see them try and enforce it. They can write all the laws they want but until they have the wherewithall to enforce them they mean nothing. Just look at our own immigration laws. As for homeschooling those laws will never hold water. The government may choose not to recognize a child's "credentials" but when push comes to shove it's the teaching that will make the difference. Those who follow the teachings of Jesus are recognizable despite whether or not the government chooses to acknowledge this teachings as important. As we all know the U.N. is all fluff anyhow.
  22. Well. It's for "peaceful purposes" isn't it? Not! But they will soon be bold enough to admit that they were after weapons all along. After having lied to the U.N. over and over I believe Iran should no longer be given a voice at the U.N. They cannot be trusted and have blatantly mocked defied the world community and so the world community should turn their backs on them.
  23. I was wondering when he would get around to promoting Rev Wright.
  24. I have to agree. If these CEO's want big bonuses they need to make sure the taxpayers are reimbursed. It's reassuring to see that Washington understands these bailout funds are loans and not grants. Now we must remind these businesses and those running them of their obligation to the nation.
